Job Description

Position Function:

The Assistant Director Center for Americas Veterans is responsible for assisting the Director of the Center for Americas Veterans in the overall management and strategic planning of programs services and activities in support of its military-connected student population. Plays a critical role in accomplishing the Centers approved vision and strategic plan and leads and supervises the Center staff in the Directors absence.

Salary Grade:15

Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC these positions are Unclassified and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists in directing developing and coordinating strategies and programs to assist with the education and development of military-connected students and awareness of the Centers services.
Oversees the development and implementation of a comprehensive education and development education center; the methods to be followed the resources to be allocated and the mechanism for its regular evaluation and reporting.
Manages and coordinates programs services and activities in support of military-connected student learning and development.
Assists the director and works with the staff to recruit retain and prepare military-connected students for success including graduation and career attainment.
Works closely with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs State Veterans Affairs local state and national American Legion and VFW Organizations and other university departments regarding the availability of resources and opportunities to assist military-connected students in education and civilian career advancement.
6. Fosters and supports a user-friendly environment for military-connected students and their families and assists in the location of financial cultural and social support services.
Assists the director in establishing and implementing short-and long-range organizational goals objectives strategic plans policies and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness; and effects change required for improvement.
Advise and mentor the Student Veteran Association
Manage and supervise assigned staff during programs and services and as directed by the Director
Supervise the Center for Americas Veterans Graduate Assistant.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Business Management or related field.
Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters Degree any field
Leadership experience in the US Military at the NCO or Officer level
Managed and/or supervised staff
Service in a branch of the U.S. military with status of U. S. Veteran or actively serving reserve component member (National Guard or Reserves).

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Strong interest in veteran and military-connected individual development. Understanding and promoting concepts of customer service.
Knowledge and experience with educational remediation.
Outstanding interpersonal skills include building relationships with veterans and families as well as local and global communities.
Ability to make decisions and prioritize projects for efficient and effective time management.
Ability to work in close knit office as part of a team.
Ability to interact with alumni and alumni relations.
Experience working with computer and web-based applications. Knowledge of grant writing processes and procedures.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

No unusual physical requirements.
No heavy lifting and nearly all work is done in a comfortable indoor facility.
Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond ones control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days.
Meeting deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; may involve conflict resolution or interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
Job frequently requires sitting reaching talking hearing and handling objects with hands.
Occasional standing walking stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling and lifting to 10 pounds.
Visions requirements: Ability to see information in print and /or electronically.
