We are seeking a motivated Engineering Section Leader with experience in CAS algorithm development for our Tucson AZ need a Section Head to provide frontline management activities and leadership for approximately 15 engineers who define develop test and verify the performance of new Control Actuation Systems (CAS) algorithms in aggressive load and temperature environments. These systems include Aerodynamic Tail Fin and Canard Steering Control Sections Thrust Vector Attitude and Divert Control Systems Control Surface and Wing Deployment mechanisms Stage Separation and Nosecone Ejection Systems and more. The section head role includes technical oversight of our CAS development programs technical development of people training performance management hiring and resource allocation.


What You Will Do

  • You will ensure two-way communication for section members; serve as the day-to-day liaison to the programs concerning employee job assignments performance and recognition.
  • Responsibilities also include coordinating program staffing needs and reductions optimizing resource utilization and interviewing applicants.
  • Lead large teams of engineers by providing advanced control and system modeling techniques across all program phases focused mainly on Missile Development including Motors Gearboxes Actuators and Hardware Integration onto various naval ground and air platforms.
  • Provide proposal support including cost ROMs formal Basis of Estimates project plans and technology maturity plans.
  • Serve as the day-to-day liaison between section members and the programs they support across all program phases
  • Creatively applying control and modeling solutions to efficiently solve complex design problems and make sound and rationale data oriented technical conclusions.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • B.S in Aerospace Engineering Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Physics Math or related science degree
  • Prior leadership roles (frontline or project leader)
  • Ten (10) years of overall engineering experience in electrical or mechanical control algorithm design.
  • Experience with MATLAB / Simulink
  • Experience with modeling and simulations of electromechanical systems
  • Motor or servo control hardware experience

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • MS in Aerospace Engineering Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Physics Math or related science degree
  • Experience with feedforward control state estimation full and reduced state feedback and linear quadratic regulators
  • Experience in modeling simulation and analysis of three phase brushless motors gear train dynamics friction characteristics backlash temperature impacts and system stability
  • Five (5) years direct experience in requirements development modeling simulation and test of engineering hardware design development and production support
  • Ability to build a collaborative network quickly that focuses on empowering employees leading and motivating teams and fostering collaboration
  • Familiarity with Performance Development Processes
  • Proven ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
  • Experience with technical and cost proposal development technical risk management and managing to cost and schedule requirements for assigned tasks
  • Modern and classical feedback controls
  • Strong presentation and technical writing skills combined with knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools.

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 124000 USD - 250000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer including but not limited to the role function and associated responsibilities a candidates work experience location education/training and key skills.
