The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) Materials Process group is seeking a technician to support a variety of tasks in support of aerospace thermal vacuum chamber operations and flight hardware handling. SDLs thermal vacuum chamber group is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 27 space simulation thermal vacuum chambers ranging from 12cm diameter up to 3.8m diameter.
The applicant should have the ability to work well in a research laboratory environment and manage various hands-on technical problems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance of high vacuum pumps and space simulation chambers
- Vacuum bakeouts of high outgassing components and materials
- Set up and integration of flight hardware into thermal vacuum chambers
- Following written operating procedures for the safe operation of space simulation chambers
- Support of 24/7 shift work when chambers are operating
- NASA certified soldering and cable/crimp/harness assembly
- Data processing and the ability to generate technical test reports traveler entries calibration certificates and equipment maintenance records
- Performing special materials processes such as precision cleaning of sensitive parts
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent communication skills written and verbal
- Able to learn quickly on the job and apply learned skills to daily tasks
- Knowledge of MS Office specifically Word and Excel
- Able to read and interpret technical schematics drawings and diagrams
- Attention to detail especially in a laboratory setting
- Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance
- Must be able and willing to lift 50 lbs
