Job Description

TITLE: Assistant Principal REVISED 02/12/25

APPROVED 03/24/25

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Masters Degree or higher Doctorate preferred in educational administration or other applicable discipline.

2. Pennsylvania Department of Education Principal Certification.

3. At least five years experience in public school administration and supervision preferred.

4. At least five years successful experience as a classroom teacher.

5. Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent or designee may find appropriate or acceptable.

REPORTS TO:Superintendent and/or designee

SUPERVISES:Assist in supervision of all personnel assigned to the school.

JOB GOALS:Promote the educational well-being of each student and staff member in the school by creating and maintaining a safe pleasant motivational and productive environment in which to work and learn.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Assist the Principal to:

  1. Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
  2. Study and apply the principles and processes of continuous improvement in the school.
  3. Program classes within established guidelines to meet student needs.
  4. Supervise the student support program to enhance individual student education and personal development.
  5. Establish guidelines for proper student conduct and maintain student discipline.
  6. Serve as instructional leader and coach to teachers in all aspects of curriculum instruction and assessment.
  7. Supervise the schools teaching process and ensure all teachers are evaluated at least annually.
  8. Supervise the schools operational staff and ensure all staff are evaluated at least annually.
  9. Plan organize and direct implementation of all school activities.
  10. Initiate design and implement programs to meet specific needs of the school.
  11. Supervise monitor and ensure the implementation of compliant special education programs and student individual program plans.
  12. Establish and maintain favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs interpret Board policies and administrative directives and discuss and resolve individual student problems.
  13. Orient newly assigned staff members and assist in their development as appropriate.
  14. Assume leadership in the direction of the schools athletic and extra-curricular activities and attend school-sponsored activities functions and athletic events.
  15. Maintain and control the various local funds generated by student activities.
  16. Evaluate and counsel all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
  17. Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports records lists and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the schools administration.
  18. Participate in principals meetings liaison meetings and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
  19. Prepare and submit the schools budget and monitor expenditures of funds.
  20. Develop and participate in a comprehensive program to recognize student attendance achievement performance and improvement.
  21. Cooperate with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation.
  22. Conduct staff meetings and employ electronic mail and other devices to keep staff members informed of policy changes new programs research customer concerns etc.
  23. Keep the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent informed of the schools activities successes and challenges.
  24. Keep abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings reading professional journals and other publications and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  25. Work with District and other building administrators to collectively advance District goals and aims.
  26. Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  1. Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  2. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients customers and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  1. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  2. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

  1. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  2. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
  2. Ability to plan and implement programming based on District and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students peers and parents.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats.
