Job Description

What Youll Do:

  • Works under administrative direction and requires thorough knowledge of unit management and applicable federal/state program regulations.
  • Administers and monitors institution wide unit management programming for the offender population (e.g. meaningful activities and evidence-based programming)
  • Plans coordinates directs and monitors delivery of unit management and offender services.
  • Coordinates services with internal and external departments and community resources Reviews formulates and implements policies for unit management reentry/release planning and offender classification.
  • Directs and monitors offender groups (e.g. Civic/Community Organizations)
  • Provides oversight and monitoring of the offender disciplinary process.
  • Serves as chairperson or member of assigned committees.
  • Acts as Deputy Warden of Operations as assigned and carries out responsibilities as directed.
  • Oversees classification and job assignment processes for offenders.
  • Supervises unit management staff.
  • Trains and evaluates staff performance.
  • Assigns tasks to staff and ensures tasks are performed in accordance with policy.
  • Plans and monitors activities
  • Selects and hires unit management staff in conjunction with Warden and personnel and in accordance with applicable
    Ohio Administrative and Revised codes and collective bargaining unit contracts.
  • Disseminates information on a regular basis to staff.
  • Conducts rounds as required by policy.
  • Monitors and evaluates security and sanitation of the units.
  • Ensures all designated staff are trained in the Ohio Risk Assessment System
  • Monitors institutions comprehensive reentry plan and processes
  • Provides oversight and monitors offender assessment tools and case plans.
  • Writes and completes correspondences records and files (e.g. judges offender family members and community service providers)
  • Assures proper maintenance of files (e.g. visiting parole and unit) including significant data pertaining to the offenders.
  • Writes reports of activities of the department as required.
  • Writes periodic reports of offender programs and group activities.
  • Pursues grants related to offender programming and services.
  • Counsels offenders and performs other casework services in unique situations.
  • Contacts and coordinates with community organizations and associates (e.g. works with Special Services to coordinate community service projects jointly)
  • Conducts community presentations (e.g. conferences and community advisory committees)
  • Provides oversight to unit staff in coordinating volunteer community services and programming.
  • Oversees offender release process and parole planning.
  • Speaks to community groups on volunteering unit management philosophy and reentry.
  • Serves as Administrative Duty Officer as assigned.

Completion of undergraduate core program in social or behavioral science pre-medicine or public or business administration or accounting; 18 mos. exp. in delivery of human services or medical assistance in governmental community or private human support services agency or medical provider or review of such services for cost containment/budget planning; 6 mos. exp. in supervisory principles/techniques.

-Or completion of graduate core program in social or behavioral science medicine-related field or public or business administration or accounting; 12 mos. exp. in delivery of human services or medical assistance in governmental community or private human support services agency or medical provider or review of such services for cost containment/budget planning; 6 mos. exp. in supervisory principles/techniques. Note: Training in business or public administration or accounting & exp. in review of services for cost containment/budgeting only pertain to medical cost containment program administrator positions.
