QUALIFICATIONS: Shall hold a valid South Carolina certificate in guidance and counseling at specified levels: Shall possess highly developed human relations and communication skills.
Shall possess personal qualities of objectivity caring tact empathy sincerity tolerance and emotional stability. Shall have had successful experience or training in the diagnosis of learning and behavioral problems of children.
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOALS: To provide appropriate services to all students in K-6 that will enable each to achieve optimally. To provide services for students to prevent the development of potential problems and concerns. To provide remedial services to assist students in coping with problems which interfere with academic achievement and appropriate behavior.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for budget recommendations to ensure that sufficient funds are requested to carry out the objectives of the guidance program
2. Responsible for proper utilization of budget funds
3. Responsible for identifying guidance needs of students
4. Provide a written guidance plan
5. Works to provide activities to enhance the personal social and emotional development of students
6. Provide indirect services for students through coordination with teachers
7. Improvement of academic achievement through enhancement of student self-concept
8. Student behavior management plans
9. Provide indirect services for students through coordination with parents:
10. Parent study groups
11. Early identification of academic achievement
12. Makes referrals to district office staff or community agency for students in need of special services
13. Provide students with direct services to meet their needs:
14. Availability to students and parents throughout the school day
15. Group guidance on topics of general need
16. Group counseling on topics of small group need
17. Individual counseling for confidential concerns of students
18. Emphasis on developmental/preventive guidance and counseling
19. Contribution to students academic achievement through services in the affective domain
20. Assistance to students for improving class-room behavior and peer relationships
21. Responsible for periodic evaluation of guidance services
22. Responsible for annual program evaluation with administrator
23. Responsible for securing evaluative feed-back from staff parents and students
24. Responsible for strengthening program by incorporating appropriate
25. Responsible for maintaining proper certification
26. Responsible for continuing professional growth through:

28. Membership and participation in professional organizations
29. Participation in State Department of Education workshops and conferences

63. Coordination with media specialist regarding affective AV and print materials needed for counselor and classroom use
