  • PRE-K SCHOOL ASSISTANT

    Job Summary: Under general supervision of the classroom teacher Building Principal and Curriculum Supervisor to perform a variety of follow-up instructional activities; to assist in the conduct of training and learning activities with children and childrenexperiencing special learning needs; to perform a variety of routine clerical and supportive activities for instructional personnel; to support in toileting of PreK students and to do other related work as required.


    Qualifications:

    • Candidatesmust hold a Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) credential hold an Associate of Arts (AA) degree be enrolled in a program to receive a CDA or AA or have a written plan to receive a CDA or AA by school year 2025-2026.

    • Bilingual preferred

    • Basic concepts of child growth and development and developmental behavior characteristics particularly pertaining to pupils with special learning needs;

    • Behavior management strategies and techniques

    • Appropriate English usage punctuation spellingand grammar;

    • Basic arithmetical concepts;

    • Routine record storage retrieval and management procedures.

    • Demonstrate an understanding patient and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups particularly those exhibiting specialized needs;

    • Appropriately manage student behavior and guide student toward more acceptable social behaviors;

    • Communicate effectively in oral and written form;

    • Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment;

    • Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a training and educational environment;

    • Understand and carry out oral and written directions;

    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.

    Duties:

    1. Assist instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and in the conduct of instructional exercises.

    2. Work withindividual students and small groups of students with special learning needs to reinforce and follow up learning and training activities.

    3. Monitor and assist students with special learning needs in drill practice and study activities as a follow-up to the presentation of instructional lessons
    by instructional personnel.

    4. Direct students into safe learning and play activities and functions and assist in shaping of appropriate social behaviors.

    5. Assist in the management of acting-out student behavior through the use of positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques.

    6. Assist in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials and learning aids geared to the instructional level of children with special needs.

    7. Maintain a variety of records and files including confidential student records and medical information.

    8. Operate and assist students in the operation of a variety of instructional aids and media and computer assisted instruction equipment and software
    programs.

    and assist in the remediation of specific learning problems and conditions.

    10. May be required to assist with toileting of students.

    11. Perform routine first aid which may include aiding children experiencing seizures or respiratory disorders.

    12. Observe and monitor children with physical handicapping conditions and requests appropriate assistance for pupil experiencing physical distress.

    13. Maintain or assist in maintaining an orderly attractive and positive learning environment.

    14. May participate in parent conferences and pupil instruction and training planning processes.

    15. Provide a variety of skill building activities with children who experience language and hearing disorders.

    16. Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 50 to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects.

    PAY AND HOURS:
    Placement on the Queen Annes County Support Unit I Salary Schedule.
