Your Role

St John of God Bunbury Hospital is a 145-bed private hospital located in the Southwest of Western Australia. Our facility is located on the Southwest Health Campus alongside the Bunbury Regional Hospital allowing both hospitals to share several services and supports.

We are seeking a Director of Medical Services (DMS) to provide inclusive leadership that champions our Mission Vision and Values. This is an outstanding opportunity for a visionary leader to help shape medical services enhance governance and foster a collaborative innovative and patient-centred culture.

We are offering a flexible Part time opportunity 0.5 FTE (40 hours per fortnight). The Director of Medical Services will drive innovative responsive medical leadership and support the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in clinical governance and strategic decision-making. Key responsibilities include:

• Providing strong leadership to Medical Services fostering trust and effective communication among medical practitioners caregivers and administrative professionals.

• Promoting clinical excellence and efficient patient-centred care while upholding the highest standards of medical practice.

• Offering expert guidance to credentialed medical practitioners hospital executives and managers on medical service delivery.

• Overseeing systems and processes that ensure the highest standards of clinical safety quality and risk management with a focus on:

  • Clinical performance oversight peer review and addressing variations in practice.

  • Accreditation credentialing and scope of practice in alignment with SJGHC Medical Practitioner Bylaws.

  • Root cause analysis clinical risk mitigation and complaint management.

  • Monitoring and addressing individual practitioner performance and ensuring compliance with relevant policies legal frameworks and best practices.

• Supporting the CEO in engaging with medical practitioners on credentialing clinical performance and strategic recruitment.

• Establishing robust communication channels to continuously advance clinical safety and quality.

• Leading external medical liaison with medico-legal bodies coroners and professional organisations as needed.

You will be a registered Medical Practitioner with AHPRA and hold a Fellowship of a Royal Australasian College. You will bring a proven track record of clinical leadership governance expertise and the ability to achieve outstanding patient outcomes operational efficiency and service satisfaction in acute healthcare settings.

To succeed you will need demonstrated expertise in change management strong influencing skills and a proven ability to cultivate a service-oriented culture that promotes excellent patient care and responsible stewardship with a focus on innovation and productivity enhancements.

As an integral part of our hospitals leadership team you will bring experience in the application of quality and clinical risk management across Bunbury Hospital.
