SUMMARY:
The Fleet Supervisor reports to the Director of Transportation and is responsible for providing mechanical maintenance for all district vehicles and equipment implementing and maintaining services within established standards and safety regulations and managing all aspects of the fleet maintenance and repair program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Administers a comprehensive inspection preventative maintenance and repair program for District buses and vehicles to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations.
- Supervises staff establishing work schedules work assignments monitoring work performance approving time clock and leave requests for assigned staff.
- Counsels motivates disciplines and formally evaluates employees according to District guidelines and procedures.
- Diagnostic repair work and tests District buses vehicles and equipment to determine needed repairs or component replacement; estimates time and costs of repairs.
- Assesses complaints incidents breakdowns accidents and emergency situations; takes corrective action to safely resolve problems; road-tests buses vehicles and equipment as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of fleet repairs repair costs parts procurement vehicle warranties and etc. to meet documentation and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluates vehicle inspection reports and oversees input of vehicle repairs performed on work order into vehicle maintenance software programs.
- Ensures inspection and preventative maintenance schedules and repair service on all fleet vehicles are performed in accordance with Federal and State safety regulations.
- Maintains bus out of service report and informs department operations staff and administration of changes timely.
- Prepares various reports (buses out of service fuel use parts inventory etc.) according to District guidelines and procedures.
- Provides guidance and resources to mechanics for diagnostic and repair work as necessary.
- Coordinates emissions testing and annual DPS State inspection for school buses.
- Maintains a safe working environment within the shop area and physical plant that complies with federal state and board regulations.
- Facilitates training and instruction of employees in the safe operation of equipment and work practices and procedures according to District guidelines and procedures.
- Assists Director of Transportation in the interview selection and recommendation of new employees.
- Assists Director of Transportation in the development of specifications for the purchase of new buses vehicles and related equipment.
- Coordinates ordering and purchasing of fuel parts and supplies and repair services; requests purchase orders monitors expenditures and balances.
- Coordinates acquisition of new vehicle titles and registrations; communicates to insurance companies regarding vehicle inventory.
- Coordinates maintenance of bus washing and fueling facilities at Transportation and Dysart High School maintaining compliance with applicable State and County regulations; manages systems to issue fuel cards to authorized users.
- Assists Director of Transportation in the development of departmental budget.
- Adheres to District policies and procedures pertaining to transportation and personnel.
- Establish and maintain good rapport with students employees community members and vendors.
- Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Other job related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Certification of completion of technical training in automotive or heavy equipment maintenance is preferred.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid Arizona Class B Commercial Driver License with air brake and P endorsement.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Preventive maintenance and safe working practices and procedures.
- Methods materials tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline powered motorized vehicles.
- Principles of internal combustion engines electrical systems and hydraulics.
- Principles of braking systems drive trains heating and cooling systems.
- Federal and State laws and regulations applicable to school bus operations.
- Methods of storage and removal of hazardous materials.
SKILL IN:
- Reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
- Writing general correspondence and communicating effectively with others.
- Planning and organizing work; establish priorities; exercise good judgement.
- Adding subtracting multiplying and dividing in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
- Understanding and following written and oral instructions.
- Applying reason to research and solving moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
- Operating a variety of office equipment such as computers and applicable hardware and software calculators copiers printers telephones and fax machines.
- Reading gathering analyzing interpreting data such as but not limited to diagrams and schematics of electrical mechanical electronic and compressed air systems.
- Providing Customer Service
ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing balancing stooping kneeling crouching crawling reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting fingering grasping feeling talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts electrical currents vibration etc.); frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes odors dusts gases poor ventilation etc.); frequent exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals blood and other body fluids); and moderate exposure to extreme temperatures inadequate lighting movement restrictions intense noise and travel.
