Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Distribution Designer with 5 8 years of experience in utility distribution design specializing in Make-Ready Engineering and Joint-Use. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of pole loading analysis and its application in field and design scenarios. This role includes leading design projects managing permitting and easement processes and mentoring junior team members while ensuring high-quality code-compliant deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and execution of overhead and underground power distribution infrastructure projects.
Deliver end-to-end Make-Ready Engineering and Joint-Use designs using client and industry standards.
Take full ownership of pole loading analysis including calculations structural assessments and validation using tools such as PoleForeman and O-Calc.
Conduct thorough reviews of pole loading models to ensure compliance with NESC and utility-specific standards.
Manage permitting and easement responsibilities:
Research pole ownership right-of-way and property rights.
Secure necessary permits and easements by coordinating with municipalities utilities and landowners.
Interface with external stakeholders including clients permitting authorities and utility companies.
Utilize various design and modeling tools such as AutoCAD MicroStation BOUD DDS Katapult and GIS platforms.
Perform quality control reviews on deliverables completed by other designers or drafters.
Serve as a mentor and technical resource to junior team members.
Troubleshoot design challenges and contribute to continuous process improvement.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED required; Associates degree or higher preferred.
5 8 years of professional experience in utility distribution design with a strong focus on Make-Ready and Joint-Use.
Expert-level knowledge of pole loading analysis including hands-on experience with PoleForeman O-Calc or similar tools.
Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD MicroStation) and utility-specific platforms (BOUD DDS Katapult).
Deep understanding of NESC codes distribution construction standards and permitting regulations.
Demonstrated experience managing right-of-way and easement processes.
Valid drivers license and ability to pass background checks and drug screening.
Authorized to work in the United States.
Willingness to travel occasionally for field verification or stakeholder meetings (minimal overnight travel).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using GIS tools for utility design and asset tracking.
Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations in utility environments.
Project management experience in Make-Ready or distribution design projects.
Proven ability to lead projects and mentor junior staff.
