How to Apply: Overview

The Assistant Director of Specialized Instruction under thedirection of the Director of Specialized Instruction assists in the planningdevelopment implementation evaluation and maintenance of programs for diverselearners across the 15 schools of the Acero Schools network. The AssistantDirector provides ongoing assistance and training to special education staffgeneral education staff related service providers and administrators;monitors program compliance; provides curricular resources to teachers andspecialists; provides consultation and support to administrators and staff inthe area for diverse learners and related services; and other related functionsas directed.

Core Responsibilities

Coordinate curricular resources inthe areas of special education psychological health and mental healthservices.

Assist in the evaluation of specialeducation programs and/or projects for the purpose of carrying out andachieving Acero Schools Specialized Instruction goals and objectives withinarea of responsibility.

Prepare documentation for thepurpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.

Present information on programsservices regulations etc. for the purpose of serving as a resource to otherschool personnel.

Observe consult with and assistteaching staff and specialists in the development and implementation ofindividualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.

Provide training and consultation toadministration teachers support staff and parents in the areas of specialeducation RtI and diverse learning to improve instructional capacity andstudent outcomes.

Understand basic assessment strategiesfor diverse learners.

Understand laws regulations andeducation code pertaining to special education.

Understand principles practices andtrends in the field of special education.

Knowledge of philosophicaleducational fiscal and legal aspects affecting school district operation.

Understand curriculum andinstruction design and delivery systems for students receiving specialeducation services.

Experience with human relationshipsconflict resolution strategies and procedures and team management building methodsand techniques.

Understand the continuum of specialeducation services and placement options.

Evaluate and analyze complexproblems issues and concerns and recommend appropriate alternative solutionsand make effective and timely decisions.

Plan organize and conductcomprehensive professional development programs for teachers administratorsapprentices specialists and parents.

Communicate effectively in oral andwritten form.

Effectively utilize computertechnology in day-to-day work.

Work cooperatively with parentscommunity and colleagues.

Plan organize and coordinate siteand network-wide special education programs and services.

Establish and maintain cooperativeorganizational public and educational community relationships.

Demonstrate ethical behavior.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:Bachelors Degree in Education (required); Masters Degree in Education(preferred)

Minimumof 3 years of experience in Special Education or closely related field (preferred)

Experiencein site administration or district administration with increasing levels ofresponsibility (preferred)

Holds valid Illinois State Board ofEducation Special Education certification LBSI Type 73 or Type 75 (required)

Musthold permanent residency in the United States (required)

Physical Demands

The nature of thework requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment and theability to communicate and exchange information collect compile and preparework documents set-up and maintain work files. Physical demands include theability to stand bend reach high and low stoop and walk around the classroom60% of the day. In addition candidates must be able to lift and/or push andpull 15 to 20lbs. for short periods of time and walk up and down stairsseveral times a day.

Working Condition

Majorityof work is performed in a general office availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required toperform job requires participation and attendance atorganization-sponsored events and meetings.
