Job Description

The Chatham Inn located in the charming town of Chatham United States is seeking a talented and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team. As the second-in-command in our kitchen you will play a crucial role in maintaining our high standards of culinary excellence and supporting our Executive Chef in daily operations.

  • Assist the Executive Chef in menu planning development and implementation
  • Oversee daily kitchen operations ensuring smooth workflow and high-quality food preparation
  • Manage and mentor kitchen staff fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment
  • Maintain strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards
  • Assist in inventory management including ordering supplies and minimising waste
  • Contribute creative ideas for seasonal menu changes and special events
  • Ensure consistent food quality and presentation across all dishes
  • Step in for the Executive Chef when necessary managing all aspects of kitchen operations
  • Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure excellent guest experiences
  • Participate in staff training and development programmes

Qualifications :

 

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a high-end restaurant or hotel kitchen
  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar leadership role
  • Advanced knowledge of culinary techniques and kitchen management
  • Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
  • Expertise in menu planning recipe development and cost control
  • Proficiency in inventory management and ordering systems
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Creativity and passion for culinary innovation
  • Knowledge of various cuisines particularly those relevant to fine dining
  • Understanding of local and seasonal ingredients
  • Flexibility to work evenings weekends and holidays as required
