Description

Are you someone who loves helping others grow and succeed As a Life Skills Mentor youll work one-on-one with individuals to help them build confidence and learn important life skills while exploring and experiencing their communities. Mentors are able to build meaningful relationships with each person due to small manageable caseloads and the ability to take time getting to know each other. Mentors will support their individuals to plan find and participate in activities they are interested in and can also facilitate exciting learning and social opportunities based on your own interests and experiences. If youre patient dependable and good at adjusting to different peoples needs this could be the perfect job for you!
Schedule Options:
Part-Time: MondayWednesday 8:30 AM3:00 PM (supporting mostly 1 individual)
Full-Time: MondayFriday 8:30 AM3:00 PM (supporting 14 individuals)

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Help individuals set and reach goals in areas like:

  • Making friends and building relationships
  • Getting around safely in the community
  • Managing emotions and stress
  • Creating healthy daily routines
  • Taking care of their health (like hygiene eating well and going to appointments)
  • Learning to cook clean run errands and live more independently
  • Staying organized and managing time
  • Budgeting and handling money
  • Speaking up for themselves
  • Finding fun things to do in the community

2. Build strong trusting relationships with the people you support and their families/other providers
3. Plan and lead fun social activities
4. Use creative tools like apps stories and visuals to teach new skills
5. Meet regularly with each person to offer support and guidance
6. Keep notes and write simple reports about progress
7. Work with your team to share ideas and get feedback
8. Speak up for the people you support and help them get what they need
9. Join team meetings and training sessions
10. Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities:
1. A good understanding of Autism and other mental health needs
2. Great communication and people skills
3. Creativity and the ability to think outside the box
4. Knowledge of local places and activitiesor the ability to find them!
5. A strong sense of responsibility and follow-through
6. Patience flexibility and a good sense of humor

Education and Experience:
1. Previous experience as a mentor teacher direct support staff or similar role
2. Must have a valid drivers license and a clean driving record
3. Must be able to pass background checks (CORI and fingerprinting)
4. High school diploma or GED required; college degree in Psychology Social Work or a similar field is a bonus
