Job Description

The Institutional Analytics and Research (IAR) team supports and enables most university teams departments and colleges to make data-informed decisions that lead to better student outcomes. Our analysts scientists researchers and managers are distributed across several teams: Faculty Analytics Institutional Research Curriculum Analytics Outreach Analytics and Student Success Analytics.

The Senior Analytics Manager in College Analytics is a trusted advisor to senior leadership across Schools Marketing Enrollment and/or Regions owning and driving all aspects of the relationship and collaboration between the department and their assigned partners. They perform and coordinate rigorous data analyses projects and broader initiatives deploying a mix of leadership domain knowledge stakeholder management project management and analytics acumen applying exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to influence execution and outcomes. They establish and maintain strong relationships with peers and leaders across the department Data Engineering Product Management Finance EdTech and Faculty staff. As thought leaders in data-informed decision-making they lead in equipping university departments schools and other teams with state-of-the-art analytics research and insights.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Acts as a thought partner and trusted advisor in all analytics matters collaborating in the definition and construction of tools that generate valuable insights for schools leadership and building strong relationships with senior partners and stakeholders.
  • Leads and oversees the documentation of data analytics and research needs in projects and programs of high complexity with a student and equity-centered lens collaborating with peers cross-functional partners faculty staff and leaders. Leads the translation of user stories into technical requirements. Defines requirement analysis best practices and drives their adoption across the department.
  • Sets and manages expectations about analytics/research projects and programs with cross-functional impact. Defines and owns communication plans drives realistic goal setting and clarity about scope timelines outcomes and dependencies.
  • Identifies adequate data sources and data sets to evaluate hypotheses produce forecasts and support findings of analytics and research projects and experiments.
  • Drives the identification investigation and resolution of complex data issues contributing to the accuracy completeness consistency timeliness and validity of the universitys data. Collaborates with Data Engineering and other data & analytics partners to define standards and best practices that increase data quality across the university.
  • Combines data analysis visualization and narrative structures to convey information in compelling ways to instigate deliberate action. Participates in the definition of data visualization standards and best practices and promotes their adoption across the department and the university.
  • Plays a prominent role in other team members development through constructive feedback and sharing of technical and institutional knowledge.
  • Conveys information effectively to peers partners and senior leaders using a variety of resources and formats (synchronous and asynchronous verbal and written) such as e-mails presentations meetings and workshops. Defines and owns communication plans for complex high-visibility projects and programs that span several university departments.
  • Creates and organizes information about processes projects operations data assets and insights from analyses and research making it accessible in ways that increase the universitys knowledge and efficiency. Writes and interprets technical documentation (e.g. Entity-Relationship Conceptual Logical and Physical data models). Contributes actively to the enrichment of the universitys data management platforms (e.g. data dictionaries catalogs etc.).
  • Drives tasks activities and large-scale cross-functional projects and programs with high levels of autonomy confidence and collaboration with peers and partners.
  • Breaks down complex goals into concrete tasks and activities and actively supports leaders in project planning. Tracks and reports own progress dependencies and challenges diligently.
  • Expert in the universitys most relevant KPIs the drivers that affect them and plays a leading role in their definition and tracking. Applies sound judgment systems-thinking and analytical skills to assess risks perform root-cause analyses make recommendations and drive cross-functional decisions that contribute to the achievement of the universitys objectives. Leads strategic planning and operational excellence initiatives across the department.
  • Proposes solutions for large-scale problems and requirements. Collaborates effectively with technical specialists (e.g. data engineers data analysts data scientists) in the design and construction of data products systems and applications.
  • Understands and abides by the relevant policies and methods to access use transform store and delete data in responsible secure and compliant ways. Identifies data security risks when dealing with concrete data sets and takes adequate mitigation actions.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in a related discipline

Experience

  • 7 years of related experience in Data Analysis Business Intelligence Data Science Statistics Decision Intelligence Research or related discipline.

Experience in lieu of education

An equivalent combination of training experience credentials or accomplishments demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA in a related field.
