Position Purpose
Reporting to the Supervisor Lines this position is responsible for the monitoring maintenance and repair of specialty tools used by line staff and ensuring that annual testing is conducted on equipment as required by Ministry of Labour and other regulatory agencies.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Repair small engines and tools or arranges for repair.
- Assist with the testing of high voltage personal safety equipment by tracking scheduling communicating and ensuring testing schedule is maintained.
- Maintain and monitor small parts and tools inventory.
- Update and maintain tool maintenance in-house legacy system.
- Control the issue and return of tools and equipment.
- Maintain tool crib safety at all times.
- Facilitate parts deliveries and pick up using G and D or AZ license.
- Monitors safety equipment checks and conducts annual inspections for specialty tools related to Line work including high voltage protective equipment fibre glass live line tools hoists generators etc.
- Arranges annual testing and re-certification or calibration on specialty safety equipment to ensure equipment is maintained in safe operating condition. Initiates purchase of replacement tools that fail testing or equipment that cannot be repaired.
- Responsible for the care and control of the major tools in the Line Department lock up area.
- Maintains records of tool activity for inventory and maintenance purposes. Initiates and follows up on records required to ensure suppliers contracts repair shops and test facilities are compensated for services.
- Ensures that related records are current and accurate for Alectras protection and prepared for inspection by the Ministry.
- Reports any unsafe conditions or observed unsafe work practices using Alectra procedures.
- Responsible for a working knowledge and understanding of and make all efforts reasonable to work in accordance with and ensuring work is done in compliance with the appropriate safety legislation EUSR rules Alectra policies and procedures and safe work practices that apply to the work while adhering to the internal responsibility system. Reports any unsafe conditions or observed unsafe work practices using Alectra procedures.
- The incumbent may be asked to perform other related duties which may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Competencies
Education & Specialized Knowledge
- Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Proven small engine construction/repair experience preferably combined with a Small Engine Mechanic Certificate or Ontario equivalent.
- Basic Electrical Theory Knowledge is an asset.
- Requires a valid Class G drivers license with an ability to obtain Class D up to AZ.
- Branch 2 Crane Operator certification is an asset.
- Occupational Health & Safety Act (OH&S) Level 1 and 2 is an asset.
- Propane Handling Chain Saw Operator and Husky Tool Repair training an asset.
- Welding Experience is an asset.
Experience
- Minimum two (2) years related experience.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Excellent physical condition including the ability to safely and ergonomically handle loads in excess of 50 lbs (22.7 kg).
- Demonstrated ability to solve moderately complex problems. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with coworkers and members of the public to achieve positive outcomes for the company.
- Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work and act independently within a fast-paced teamwork environment.
- Ability to read operating manuals.
- Experience in shipping & receiving in a computerized environment.

- Work involves moderate unpleasant conditions or hazards resulting in some discomfort or risk of danger - work is performed predominantly indoors.
