Job Description

Description

We are looking for a Certified Ophthalmic Technician for TCP Westwood someone to provide ophthalmic technical support in the patient care area in a manner developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served (0 to 18 years) and adults as person will conduct varioustests and procedures that inform ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision conditions.

  • Knowledge of ophthalmic technology equipment supplies and ophthalmic terminology.
  • Ability to obtain medical history and perform technical eye exams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • 2yrs experience in an ophthalmology or optometry office

License Required

  • COA - Cert-Cert Ophthalmic Assistant Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) OR
  • COT - Cert-Cert Ophthalmic TECH Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) OR
  • OPTMTRST - Licensed Optometrist Texas Optometry Board

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Specific Duties

  • work closely with patients and their families to help them understand their vision conditions and assure compliance with treatment protocols.
  • Performs basic instrument maintenance on ophthalmoscopes retinoscopes lensometers perimeters tangent screen phoropter/trial frames slit lamps keratometers muscle light surgical instruments.
  • Obtains ophthalmic history from patient or parent including but not limited to presenting complaint past ocular history family history systemic illness medications allergies and drug reactions review of systems social history and developmental history.
  • Participates in Hospital quality improvement act ivies offers written or verbal recommendations and participates in the development of team goals yearly.
  • Attends clinic staff meetings and reads minutes 90% of the time to keep abreast of current information as documented in the meeting sign-in sheets.
  • Assists physician in examining ROP infants in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Coordinates appointments compiles list and tracks active ROP infants.
  • Assures documentation of patient appointment compliance and contact patients prior to appointment
  • Performs visual acuity color vision testing lensometry ex-ophthalmometry Amsler grid Schirmer test pupil evaluation anterior chamber depth assessment stereo testing ocular motility on extraocular muscle actions strabismus amblyopia and assessment methods on children and adults
