Job Description

Project Kuiper is Amazons low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast reliable internet to customers and communities around the world and weve designed the system with the capacity flexibility and performance to serve a wide range of customers from individual households to schools hospitals businesses government agencies and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

The Environmental Engineer will lead critical environmental initiatives for Amazons Kuiper project based at either our Redmond or Kirkland Washington facility. This role combines technical engineering expertise with strategic program management to enhance Kuipers environmental performance and regulatory compliance. As an individual contributor you will develop and implement environmental management systems manage compliance programs and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with leadership teams you will integrate environmental engineering solutions and best practices into daily operations while ensuring regulatory requirements are met. Your responsibilities will encompass technical design and oversight of environmental systems development of compliance processes and implementation of sustainable practices.

Key job responsibilities
Design implement and maintain comprehensive environmental management systems
Drive environmental compliance programs to ensure adherence to all applicable regulations
Manage environmental permits and agency relationships
Develop technical solutions for environmental challenges
Conduct environmental risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies
Evaluate facility conditions and recommend improvement alternatives
Perform data analysis and environmental metrics reporting
Lead compliance reviews of internal processes and practices
Serve as key point of contact for environmental issues and develop technical solutions
Maintain expertise in current and emerging environmental regulations
Lead cross-functional environmental projects and initiatives
Develop and deliver environmental training programs
Mentor junior staff and promote environmental stewardship
Build relationships with key internal/external stakeholders
Manage environmental budgets and resources effectively


A day in the life
Based at our Redmond or Kirkland Washington production facility the Environmental Engineer will develop and support Amazon Kuipers EHS Environmental Compliance programs under the Sr. Environmental Manager. Youll shape and improve environmental programs while supporting satellite manufacturing operations. Responsibilities include implementing technical solutions driving compliance initiatives and developing innovative approaches to environmental challenges in our facilities. This position offers unique opportunities at the intersection of aerospace technology and environmental engineering contributing directly to Kuipers mission of providing global satellite connectivity while ensuring environmental excellence.

Bachelors degree in Environmental Engineering Chemistry Chemical Engineering or closely related technical field
5 years of environmental engineering/management experience in aerospace industry or similar field
Extensive knowledge of federal state and local environmental regulations including the Clean Air Act (CAA) Clean Water Act (CWA) and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
Industrial environmental experience with demonstrated compliance expertise across multiple environmental media types (Air Quality Hazardous Waste Industrial Wastewater Stormwater etc.)
Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and managing complex environmental projects
Strong background in environmental risk assessment compliance auditing and corrective action implementation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence senior management and external stakeholders

Masters degree in Environmental Engineering Chemistry Chemical Engineering or closely related technical field
8 years of environmental engineering/management experience in the aerospace industry or similar fields
Proven track record in laboratory/R&D complex manufacturing and/or production environments
Demonstrated ability to engage workforce at all levels to build and maintain a strong environmental culture
Experience implementing environmental management systems (e.g. ISO 14001) across multiple sites
Knowledge of emerging environmental technologies and best practices in the aerospace industry
Experience in developing and implementing corporate sustainability strategies
Experience in regulatory negotiations and managing relationships with environmental agencies
Excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of building strong working relationships across all levels and disciplines
Adaptable and receptive to feedback with the ability to quickly implement changes
Experience mentoring junior environmental professionals and driving organizational change

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $98700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
