Are you ready to join an organization ranked among the best in the nation Texas Childrens Health Plan is looking for a Senior Counsel who is passionate about improving the health and well-being of children and families across Texas.

In this role you will support the Deputy General Counsel in providing legal counsel and strategic guidance to Texas Childrens Health Plan and its affiliated entities. Youll work closely with leadership navigate regulatory frameworks manage contractual matters liaise with outside counsel and play a vital role in shaping compliance and operational initiatives.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel to Texas Childrens Health Plan and its affiliated entities.
  • Deliver clear actionable legal guidance including written legal opinions and memoranda to Health Plan leadership and staff under the direction of the Deputy General Counsel.
  • Research investigate and advise on legal and regulatory compliance matters relevant to health insurance operations.
  • Review internal policies and procedures and assess applicable legal issues and regulatory standards including those from state and federal health agencies (e.g. HHSC CMS TDI).
  • Support litigation-related activities as directed including managing discovery and coordinating with external counsel.
  • Draft review and revise a variety of contractual agreements including provider agreements vendor contracts and government program arrangements.
  • Lead and participate in contract negotiations ensuring compliance with applicable laws rules and regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners on regulatory and business initiatives.
  • Represent Legal in key meetings and serve on committees providing legal insight and guidance as needed.
  • Support the Legal Department and Deputy General Counsel on additional matters and projects as assigned.

Skills & Requirements

  • Juris Doctor Degree (JD) required.
  • Must have an active license to practice law in the State of Texas. If not currently licensed in Texas must hold a license in another state and become licensed in Texas within 18 months of hire.
  • Minimum 2 years of attorney experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of experience as a licensed attorney with a strong focus on health care law litigation insurance or regulatory compliance particularly related to Medicaid or managed care organizations (MCOs).
  • Experience working with or within health plans state regulatory agencies or in a health care legal environment is a strong plus.
