Job Description
Mullens Markings Inc. is looking for a Accounts Receivable Manager to join our team in Culpeper VA. MMI is a full-service line striping and pavement marking company providing high quality highway roadway and parking lot striping services throughout Virginia. This position will be in person in our Culpeper VA office with occasional travel to the location Roanoke VA.
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Accounts Receivable (AR) Manager to oversee the billing and collections functions within our construction operations. This role is responsible for managing the AR team ensuring timely and accurate invoicing monitoring collections and maintaining strong relationships with clients and internal project teams. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of construction billing practices including AIA billing lien waivers and retainage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the AR team including hiring training and performance evaluations.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of customer invoices including progress billings and AIA documentation.
- Monitor AR aging reports and implement effective collection strategies to minimize DSO (Days Sales Outstanding).
- Ensure compliance with contract terms lien laws and retainage requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers estimators and legal teams to resolve billing disputes and ensure timely payments.
- Review and approve lien waivers change orders and other billing-related documents.
- Maintain accurate records of receivables and prepare regular AR reports for senior management.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes including reconciliations and audit support.
- Continuously improve AR processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in accounting Finance or related field preferred
- 7 years of experience in accounts receivable with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Experience with job costing and project-based accounting preferred
- Familiarity with construction contracts and legal compliance related to receivables preferred
- CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of construction billing practices including AIA G702/G703 forms lien waivers and retainage.
- Proficiency in accounting and ERP systems (e.g. COINS).
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
- Excellent leadership communication and organizational skills.
