Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION - MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY TEACHER

For one block a day and under the direction of the EVHS and CCHS High School Principals the Medical Terminology Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging instruction in medical terminology. The teacher will create a learning environment that fosters student growth in understanding medical vocabulary anatomy and healthcare-related language. The instructor will help prepare students for careers in the healthcare field by integrating real-world applications hands-on learning and industry-relevant skills.

The teacher will supervise students in various learning settings assess student progress and maintain strong communication with students parents staff and industry professionals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are representative of this position but are not exhaustive. Additional tasks may be assigned based on school needs.

  • Develop and implement a curriculum that meets student needs aligns with industry standards and prepares students for further education or careers in healthcare.
  • Deliver engaging hands-on instruction in medical terminology ensuring students grasp key concepts related to healthcare language and communication.
  • Provide a structured and supportive classroom environment that encourages student participation and success.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods including lectures case studies role-playing and technology-based learning tools.
  • Assess student progress regularly through assignments quizzes exams and projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance performance and competency achievements.
  • Incorporate technology and digital resources into instruction to enhance learning.
  • Promote best practices for professional communication and ethical responsibilities in healthcare settings.
  • Supervise students in classroom lab and potential field experiences to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Foster relationships with local healthcare professionals and organizations to provide real-world connections for students.
  • Participate in professional development and stay current with advancements in medical terminology and healthcare education.
  • Maintain compliance with all school state and accrediting body requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with students parents colleagues and administrators regarding student progress and program updates.
  • Assist with promoting and marketing the program to maintain strong student enrollment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of medical terminology anatomy and healthcare communication.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching strategies and curriculum development.
  • Ability to create an engaging and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students parents colleagues and industry partners.
  • Commitment to student success and professional growth.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors degree or higher in a healthcare-related field with 18 credit hours in the field of healthcare.
  • Certification or credential in Medical Terminology Health Sciences or a related field preferred.
  • Teaching experience in a healthcare or educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with the appropriate endorsement as required by the Virginia Department of Education.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in a classroom and lab setting with occasional movement required.
  • Frequent standing walking and occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
  • Regular interaction with students staff parents and healthcare professionals.
  • Some travel may be required for professional development or industry collaboration.
  • Timely and consistent attendance is expected.
