Who we are looking for
We have a current need for Technical Director Civil EngineeringConveyance/Site servicing (Water Business) for the Ontario Engineering Design Organization.
GHD is looking for an energetic creative motivated senior civil engineer with design management experience to work on challenging design projects and to support our dynamic and growing water business. Utilizing a One GHD approach to collaboration we leverage industry-leading talents from across the globe to provide our clients with unmatched expertise and service.
The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of leading engineering teams in Linear Water and Water/Wastewater treatment projects for the municipal and industrial sector backed by a demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams from concept through detailed design and construction is required. They will also possess project management and business development skills and the ability to interact professionally with public and private sector clients as a technical leader and subject matter expert.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership to civil engineering teams in execution of major projects while working cooperatively with multidisciplinary design teams in the delivery of design packages and participating in design reviews.
- Take on Diverse Leadership Roles in Project Design Delivery: Taking on project roles such as Design Manager Project Manager Project Civil Discipline Lead leading the civil function of a major project or project Quality Manager. Taking on a Design Discipline Lead role in leading technical development and be an active participant in the Community of Practice.
- Needs Assessment: Engage with senior business leaders to understand long-term strategic challenges.
- Improvement/Innovation: Initiate formulate and implement new business practices within a specific discipline while managing the development and/or delivery of a significant element of the organizations change management program.
- Culture of Innovation: Define the execution plan to disseminate innovative capabilities across the businesses helping people develop these competencies and enabling them to innovate through solutions such as idea generation platforms jam sessions and hackathons.
- Engineering Solutions Design: Lead the design of complex and/or innovative engineering solutions and the associated validation processes for a business-critical area of engineering to enable the realization of engineering design briefs that conform to organizational and/or regulatory standards.
- Engineering Standards Specification: Provide leadership on the design and development of engineering standards and specifications for a business-critical area that must be adhered to by the organization and/or its suppliers contractors and consultants to ensure engineering work of the required quality is delivered and to manage the risks associated with engineering programs.
- Knowledge Management: Manage the development of policies and processes for knowledge management to ensure the creation of best practices and the setup of case studies and internal knowledge-sharing sessions; manage capture and share knowledge among colleagues on project/program outcomes and innovative practices across a large area to support the practice.
- Technical Developments Recommendation: Lead the discussion and recommendation of more complex or innovative technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/application software and supporting infrastructure to better meet users needs.
- Professional Supervision: Supervisory role in training mentoring and skills development of the Civil Engineering team.
- Business Development: Providesupport to the Water Business groups as needed in Business Development. Be instrumental working with Market leads in growing the water business within Canada.
- Feasibility Studies: Conduct the most-complex feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective and document findings to complete cost-benefit analysis on implementing changes to business processes products or business unit structure.
- Design Management: Manage a portfolio of major projects in line with overall project management strategy. Taking on responsibility for monitoring and reporting of project performance progress and quality on behalf of GHD.
- Client & Customer Management (External): Manage key client and customer relationships. Likely to involve using account teams to maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Education
- Bachelors in civil engineering
- A Professional Engineer registered with Ontario and/or other jurisdictions.
Experience
- General Experience: Experience level enables job holder to provide leadership to others regarding work related systems processes and challenges (More than 15 years)
- Managerial Experience: Experience of supervising and directing people and other resources to achieve specific end results within limited timeframes (13 months to 3 years)
- Minimum 20 years of experience in a professional engineering consulting environment with notable project technical leadership and management experience.
- Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion.
- Proven supervisory role in mentoring design team. Provide hand-on technical guidance to engineers and technical staff in delivering ongoing projects.
- Mentor engineers and designers in the development of their consultancy engineering and design skills
- Provide guidance and QA/QC on all engineering design calculations design briefs and technical reports for masterplans environmental assessments and design projects
- Promote corporate participation at technical conferences and provide senior guidance and review for key technical conference papers generation
