Position Title: On Call Spot Operator

Supervision: Supervised by Technical Director
Reports To: Stage Manager Technical Director and Lighting Designer
This position is an on-call activated on a show-by-show basis.
Overview: With instruction and assistance from the Technical Staff and Lighting Designer the Spot Op is responsible for operating the follow spotlight for a specific production. The Spot Op will receive training in order to perform the assigned duties. Once the show opens the operator will operate the follow spot during each performance. It is expected that the Spot Op attends crew orientation tech rehearsals and performances.
Expectations:
- Attend Tech Rehearsals and Performances as assigned
- Report to Stage Manager at specified call time.
- Operate the follow spot and execute cues at the direction of the Stage Manager
- Adjust cues at the direction of the Lighting Designer
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1 year of Spotlight Operator experience or production lighting experience
- Excellent hand-eye coordination: Ability to smoothly and accurately follow a moving target with the spotlight.
- Concentration and focus:Maintain attention to detail while following actors on stage during a performance.
- Quick reaction time:Respond rapidly to changes in stage action and cue calls.
- Physical stamina:Maintain proper posture while operating the followspot for extended periods.
- Technical understanding:Basic knowledge of lighting equipment and its functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate the spotlight:Precisely direct the spotlight beam onto designated actors on stage follow their movements throughout the performance.
- Cue execution:Respond to cues from the lighting board operator to activate and adjust the spotlight intensity and focus on specific moments in the show.
- Maintain focus:Continuously tracking the actors position while adjusting the spotlight angle and intensity to maintain proper illumination.
- Pre-show preparation:Set up the spotlight align the beam and test its functionality before the performance.
- Collaboration:Work closely with the lighting designer to interpret the lighting design and execute their vision.
- Other duties as assigned by the Stage Manager
