Grounds Operation Specialist Summary: The Grounds Operation Specialist also known as a Groundman plays a vital role in supporting tree care and removal operations. This position works closely with the tree crew to perform essential ground-level tasks that contribute to the safe and efficient pruning removal and maintenance of trees. Key responsibilities include managing equipment dragging and chipping brush running and maintaining saws securing ropes and ensuring overall worksite safety. The Groundman may also rotate into flagging duties when jobs are on roads that require traffic control. Flagging certification for Maryland will be provided if not already held. Ideal candidates are hardworking safety-conscious and interested in growing a career in arboriculture or landscaping. This is a hands-on outdoor position for those who want to gain valuable industry experience and be part of a professional and safety-focused team.
Duties & Responsibilities: - Assist with safe and efficient tree removal pruning and cleanup on job sites
- Drag and chip brush handle debris and keep the work area clear and organized
- Operate and maintain ground-level tools and equipment (e.g. pole saws chainsaws chippers blowers)
- Run clean and maintain ground saws daily
- Support climbers and bucket truck operators with roping rigging and lowering operations
- Drive transport trucks (pickups and occasionally non-CDL bucket trucks)
- Rotate in on flagging duties when required; flagging certification will be provided for Maryland
- Perform daily vehicle and equipment inspections to ensure readiness and safety
- Load and unload tools equipment and materials; keep them organized on site
- Follow all company safety protocols and wear required PPE at all times
- Set up work zones with signage cones and barriers as needed
- Communicate clearly and professionally with crew members and supervisors
- Provide courteous customer service on both residential and commercial properties
Qualifications: - Valid drivers license required (No provisional licenses accepted); CDL preferred
- Must be able to drive transport trucks (pickups and occasional non-CDL bucket trucks)
- Previous experience in tree care landscaping or a related field preferred but not required
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments including at heights and in varying weather
- Strong commitment to safety and attention to detail
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Availability to work 10-hour days a minimum of 40 hours per week; storm response may require up to 16-hour days
- Willingness to travel and be away from home for extended periods or on short notice (weather-related)
- Willing to train on bucket operations roping and rigging
Physical Requirements: - Ability to lift 70 pounds to shoulder height
- Flexibility to bend squat and lift throughout the day
- Ability to stand walk and work on uneven ground for extended periods
- Tolerance for outdoor work in extreme heat cold or wet conditions
Working Conditions: - Outdoor work in various weather and terrain conditions
- Physically demanding; involves lifting dragging bending climbing and operating equipment
- Safety gear (PPE) must be worn at all times (provided by the company)
