Join our mission-driven team at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens where we support community engagement and environmental stewardship. . Were seeking enthusiastic Educators (Full-Time)with a focus in early childhood who thrives in both indoor and outdoor Florida settings to inspire curiosity and nurture the next generation of conservation champions.
In this role you will guide young guests through immersive programs that connect them to the natural world. You will engage them with storytelling creative play hands-on science and outdoor exploration while working safely alongside our ambassador animals including reptiles amphibians and small and resilience are key as you embrace the lush botanical gardens and wildlife to work in a vibrant team-oriented environment that fuels learning and sparks curiosity.

What Youll Do:
  • Deliver developmentally appropriate hands-on experiential learning using storytelling interactive play and education animal ambassadors to engage preschool children.
  • Collaborate across departmentsincluding School Programs Camps Outreach and Homeschoolto deliver dynamic conservation education aligned with state school systems and grade-level curricula.
  • Create safe inclusive and stimulating learning environments.
  • Comfortable working with ambassador animals to include invertebrates reptiles amphibians and small mammals (chinchilla & armadillo) and integrate wildlife into educational programming.
  • Manage program planning maintain accurate records and support cross-training efforts to continuously enhance our education initiatives.
  • Participate in community outreach and special events helping foster lifelong learning and passion for nature preservation.
What You Bring:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of formal or informal teaching experience with young children including classroom management and instructional delivery in educational recreational or conservation-focused environmentsor equivalent unpaid experience such as internships or volunteer teaching.
  • Strong knowledge of early childhood development andeducational best practices.
  • Ability to adapt lessons to varied developmental stages and learning styles while promoting inclusivity and empowerment.
  • Valid drivers license with clear driving record to operate organizational vehicles including 12-passenger vans for offsite events.
  • Availability for Tuesday through Saturday schedule with flexibility for evenings holidays and special events.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to consistently remain on your feet for prolonged periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity for standing reaching flexibility and body movement for bending crouching walking kneeling stoop bend lift kneel crawl climb jump dig and prolonged standing/sitting.
  • Grasp turn and manipulate objects of varying size and weight requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to operate motorized cart trucks hand and/or power tools.
  • Ability to work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures.
  • Ability to transport and move items occasionally up to 20 pounds without difficulty for short distance.
  • Auditory ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone telephone systems two-way radio and face-to-face interactions.
  • Visual and auditory acuity appropriate for safety and discern differences in document
WORK CONDITIONS
  • Weather Exposure: Exposure to various weather conditions including extreme heat sunlight cold rain and wind.
  • Pathogens: possible exposure to animal or human bloodborne pathogens.
  • Infectious Diseases: Risk of exposure to zoonotic diseases.
  • Hazards: Potential for injuries from wildlife equipment chemicals and heights.
  • On-Call Responsibilities: Will be required to be on call for emergencies.
  • Disaster support: Must be available to fulfill disaster-response duties and responsibilities as required.
TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS
  • Must maintain a valid drivers license and clear driving record.
  • May require local or international travel for short time frames.
