Program Overview Rites of Passage (ROP) Program
The Rites of Passage (ROP) Program Coordinator assists the ROP Homeward Manager in developing and implementing programs and activities for Women and children. The program coordinator will ensure that programs and activities align with an African-centered value system and the organizations strategic priorities and meet the needs of participants.

This position reports to the Rites of Passage Manager (Homeward Bound) and is responsible for working collaboratively within the ROP team to coordinate and implement programs and activities for parents and children of African descent in the Homeward Bound program.

What You Will Do
  • Provide leadership in the research and implementation of culturally appropriate group activities for women children and youth of African descent in the HB ROP program.
  • Plan bimonthly culturally appropriate group activities and/or events for women children and youth of African descent
  • In collaboration with the program Manager promote group events and activities to the Homeward Bound participants.
  • Provide coordination and administrative support to the community advisory circle.
  • Support and where necessary lead workshops group meetings for women and children.
  • Confirm group arrangements including food frequency and location of meetings.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with parents to ensure adequate support is available for children during Sisterhood sessions and other ROP groups or events.
  • Assists in developing tools to measure outcomes and evaluate the overall effectiveness of the program.
  • Works with other staff to ensure ongoing collaboration and coordination within the unit and the organization.
  • Enters clients and volunteers service data and maintains electronic and paper records as required following case and data management standards. Databases used include but may not be limited to CRM 2.0
  • Monitors and documents outcomes of all activities and reports to the Manager regularly.
  • Participate in regular supervisory sessions with the manager.
  • Participate in regular staff and unit meetings within the unit.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ensuring that Rites of Passage standards of service excellence are clearly understood and centred in all aspects of Rites of Passage work with African-Canadian youth and communities and internally within WoodGreen.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Undergraduate Degree in Social Work or College Diploma Social Service Worker Child and Youth Worker or other related diploma/degree.
  • At least 3 years experience working with children and youth in culturally responsive programming activities. Highly developed coordination facilitation skills and experience working with the Rites of Passage models and/or African-centred maturation models are considered strong assets for this role.

  • Minimum 3 years of highly developed case management and referral competencies
  • Demonstrated outreach marketing organizational and planning skills
  • Effective communication (written and oral) and presentation skills
  • Solid knowledge of African-Canadian community issues impacting women and children
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Windows MS Office Suite Internet and databases
  • Demonstrated ability to work and cooperate in a team
  • Excellent data collection and analysis skills
  • Strong group presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong time management skills
