Primary Purpose:

A music therapists key responsibilities include establishing goals for therapy collecting and analyzing data from the students responses to music and customizing treatment plans to each student. New treatments must be improvised to meet the students musical therapy needs. The music therapist will integrate behavioral developmental and neurological approaches into music therapy treatments. Music therapy provides emotional support coping mechanisms and physical rehabilitation. Students are provided with a creative outlet for their feelings through music.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelors degree from accredited university

Hold certification from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT)

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of the principles and practices of music therapy and music instruction methods

Knowledge of the various appropriate music therapy activities used for the therapeutic treatment of individuals with disabilities

Demonstrates effective and professional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills

Experience

At least one year of therapeutic experience working with school aged children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

1. Use therapeutic music interventions in accordance with students physical or cognitive needs capabilities and interests.
2. Assesses needs and administers direct music therapy treatments in order to provide habilitative and rehabilitative services
3. Performs a thorough evaluation assessing the needs of the student receiving services and sets measurable objectives.
4. Plans and organizes music therapeutic activities in accordance with students needs capabilities and interests.
5. Observes and evaluates students reactions to various experiences and documents therapeutic changes and progress in the IEP.
6. Adjusts therapy to achieve maximum results.

1. Reports progress to the teacher ARD committee student receiving services and family members or guardians.

1. Provides treatment progress and status documentation in accordance with the IEP goals.

1. Maintains and submits documentation in the format and timelines required by the ARD committee and in compliance with local state and federal regulations

1. Attends ARDS teacher and parent or guardian conferences

1. Develops teaches and assesses the plan of therapy.

1. Uses appropriate methods and tools in all teaching and training activities.

1. Maintains professional conduct in relation to information that is confidential in nature sharing information only when the recipients right to access is clearly established and the sharing of such information is clearly in the best interest of the student served.

1. Help students to improve social emotional and behavioral growth.

1. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

1. Be a positive role model for students support the mission of the school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

1. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook and IEPs.

1. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.

1. Assist in selection of books equipment and other instructional materials.

Communication

1. Establish and maintain open communication with parents students campus administration and teachers.

1. Maintain a positive and professional relationship with colleagues students parents/guardians and community members.

1. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

1. Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.

1. Regularly communicate with parents/guardians students and community partners through phone face-to-faceconversations virtual meetings and email.

1. Collaborate with the special education teacher other campus/district staff and parents/guardians to develop IEPs

and schedule ARDS for students and ensure the implementation of the IEP by coordinating with various

staff and agencies as needed.

Professional Growth and Development

1. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

1. Keep informed of and comply with state district and school regulation policies and procedures for classroom teachers.

1. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required.

1. Attend and participate in meetings and training as required.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing stooping bending pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom equipment.
