Job Title: Music Therapist
Reports to: Director of Special Education
Dept./School: Assigned Campus

Primary Purpose:
A music therapists key responsibilities include establishing goals for therapy collecting and analyzing data from the students responses to music and customizing treatment plans to each student. New treatments must be improvised to meet the students musical therapy needs. The music therapist will integrate behavioral developmental and neurological approaches into music therapy treatments. Music therapy provides emotional support coping mechanisms and physical rehabilitation. Students are provided with a creative outlet for their feelings through music.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelors degree from accredited university
Hold certification from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT)
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of the principles and practices of music therapy and music instruction methods
Knowledge of the various appropriate music therapy activities used for the therapeutic treatment of individuals with disabilities
Demonstrates effective and professional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
Experience
At least one year of therapeutic experience working with school aged children

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing stooping bending pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom equipment.
