Job Description:

The Assistant Deputy Director of Reentry Services will lead the Agencys efforts to ensure individuals are prepared for and successful in their reentry journey. As a member of the agencys executive leadership the ideal candidate will be a dynamic visionary and compassionate leader committed to helping people successfully transition from incarceration to the community. Knowledge of the criminal justice system and related community resources extensive experience with justice-involved individuals an understanding of emerging trends within reentry and the ability to make data-driven decisions are must-have skills. The incumbent will model the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) values of integrity respect compassion growth and excellence as we accomplish our mission Keep people safe.

DUTIES:

  • Provide vision direction and oversight to the reentry team members and grantee organizations.
  • Lead Reentry 2030 efforts with multiple internal and external partners.
  • Research and implement evidence-based reentry strategies.
  • Oversee a multi-million dollar annual budget and grant program.
  • Prepare reports and presentations using qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Build partnerships with wardens facility staff and division leaders.



Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelors degree in criminal justice behavioral science human services or related field plus four years corrections experience of which one year must be in a supervisory position; OR Associates degree in criminal justice behavioral science human services or related field plus six years experience of which one year must be in a supervisory position; OR eight years corrections experience of which one year must be in a supervisory position.

Preferred Qualifications:Advanced degree and four years progressively responsible experience working directly with justice-involved individuals and/or other transitioning populations on a daily basis two of which included supervising staff members. Experience researching correctional practices; writing policies procedures; collecting analyzing and presenting data. Experience with and understanding of reentry principles and practices. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience in budget management program development and program evaluation.

Other: Transcripts required prior to appointment. External applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam and at a randomly announced time pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Superior oral communication skills including the ability to effectively and concisely present complex information; research writing and editing skills; ability to work with people from a wide array of backgrounds and perspectives; possess organization and prioritization skills.
