Job Description

Job Title: AccountantSpecial Revenue & Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Accounting Services

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer Pay Grade:Prof 3:($79624 - $114582)

(Commensurate with Yrs of Exp)

Primary Purpose:

Perform professional accounting work involving compilation consolidation analysis and reporting of financial data. Direct and manage the special revenue and accounting activities of the district. Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations governing school district grants.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelors degree in accounting (preferred) or business-related field

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles established by the Governmental Accounting System Board (GASB)

Knowledge of computerized accounting systems

Ability to analyze and interpret financial data evaluate accounting problems develop data and recommend improved procedures

Ability to use software to develop complex accounting reports spreadsheets and databases

Knowledge of federal and state grant statutes and procedures

Effective organizational communication and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Two years accounting experience at a high level of responsibility

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Accounting

  1. Classify record and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and maintain financial records according to governmental accounting principles and district procedures.
  2. Compute and prepare data for journal entry and budget transfers.
  3. Prepare income statements balance sheets consolidated statements and other statements and reports.
  4. Monitor and reconcile expenditures with budget availability.
  5. Set up and maintain account controls logs and files.
  1. Perform cost accounting activities bank reconciliation or accounting for grant expenditures.
  2. Review and verify accuracy of journal entries accounting methods and procedures

Administration

  1. Work with administrators principals directors and staff regarding budget and accounting issues.
  2. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Records and Reports

  1. Prepare timely audit schedules and financial statements according to federal state and GASB standards.
  2. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required including auditable records and financial statements.

Special Revenue and Accounting

  1. Responsible for Maintenance of Effort Reporting MOE and Excess Cost reporting as well as other grant reporting requirements.
  2. Prepare MAC and SHARS reporting.
  3. Prepare Grant compliance reports.
  4. Prepare the Transportation Operations report.
  5. Prepare the NSLP Food Service report.
  6. Respond to inquiries provide appropriate information and documentation.
  7. Prepare Time and Effort documentation requirements.
  8. Prepare monthly drawdowns.
  9. Review and approve cash receipts

Personnel Management

  1. Select train evaluate and supervise special revenue and accounting staff and make recommendations relative to assignment retention discipline and dismissal.

Other

Assign work to other employees engaged in special revenue or accounting activities.

Supervise evaluate and make recommendations regarding special revenue and accounting staff.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
