Job Summary:
This role is for a Medical Lab Technician responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory tests including hematology coagulation chemistry blood banking and urinalysis. The technician will work as part of a team adhering to safety protocols and quality control measures and utilizing various laboratory instruments and technologies. The position requires a minimum of three years of experience in a hospital clinical laboratory setting.

Responsibilities:
- Performing hematology coagulation general chemistry and blood bank procedures (ABO/Rh/Antibody Screen & ID AHG Crossmatch Antibody Typing etc.).
- Conducting tests such as cold agglutinins cord blood evaluation direct and indirect Coombs tests Rhogam screening and transfusion reaction workup.
- Performing cardiac enzyme hormone/thyroid and immunoassay testing.
- Reviewing and interpreting quality control data.
- Preparing receiving and transporting specimens.
- Reporting test results using MediTech LIS.
- Performing urinalysis (macroscopic and microscopic).
- Performing venipuncture and other specimen collection techniques.
- Maintaining adherence to safety protocols including hazardous materials handling and proper disposal.
- Utilizing Siemens Dimensions and other automated instruments.
- Performing manual procedures such as CBC differential and platelet counts.
- Performing basic microbiology procedures (culture plating Gram stain wet prep).
- Assisting with accessioning and other laboratory support tasks as needed.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a hospital clinical laboratory setting.
- Experience with hematology coagulation general chemistry blood banking and urinalysis procedures.
- Proficiency in using various laboratory instruments (e.g. Siemens Dimensions).
- Experience with MediTech LIS.
- ASCP AMT or HEW certification.
- BLS certification.
- Knowledge of quality assurance and control procedures.
- Understanding of transmission-based precautions.
- Proficiency in venipuncture and specimen collection techniques.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Experience with antigen typing 24-hour urine collection acetone analysis B-12 folate testing bleeding time occult blood testing reticulocyte count body fluid analysis aerobic and anaerobic cultures organism identification crystal identification and semen analysis.
- Experience with microbiology culture reading.
Special Considerations:
- The traveler will never be scheduled alone; baseline staffing is 3 techs/2 phlebs.
- Weekend work is required every other weekend.
- The work environment is a hospital clinical laboratory.
Scheduling:
- 3 twelve-hour day shifts per week.
- Shift times vary from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM.
- The manager determines the schedule.
- A 36-hour unit orientation is required.
- Scrubs are Caribbean Blue.
