Job Description

This is a remote position.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a seasoned Mainframe Systems Programmer to support and optimize our IBM z/OS infrastructure with a strong focus on post-migration support for z/OS 3.1 and z/OSMF version 15. The ideal candidate will have recent experience upgrading and stabilizing environments following a major system version change. You will play a critical role in maintaining system health resolving compatibility issues and leveraging z/OSMF for automation and system management.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support and maintenance for IBM z/OS (v3.1) and related mainframe subsystems.
  • Configure manage and troubleshoot z/OSMF v15 including workflows software management cloud provisioning and REST API integrations.
  • Ensure full operational stability and compatibility following the migration from z/OS 2.1 to 3.1.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve post-upgrade issues (e.g. IPL errors software compatibility certificate updates).
  • Maintain SMP/E environments and perform ongoing RSU maintenance patching and software installs.
  • Implement and support z/OS 3.1 features such as zCX AI Framework enhanced System Recovery Boost and encryption enhancements.
  • Maintain system security with a focus on RACF enhancements and multi-factor authentication support.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning and testing; maintain documentation and system procedures.
  • Monitor system performance capacity planning and apply tuning as needed.


Requirements

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 7 years as a Mainframe Systems Programmer with strong expertise in IBM z/OS.
  • Direct experience with z/OS 3.1 including support for post-migration environments.
  • Proven ability to configure and troubleshoot z/OSMF v15 including workflow setup and REST APIs.
  • Deep understanding of SMP/E JCL REXX ISPF TSO and IBM utilities.
  • Familiarity with mainframe security tools such as RACF and understanding of MFA configurations.
  • Experience with system monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g. RMF SMF OMEGAMON).
  • Familiarity with subsystems like CICS DB2 or IMS is preferred.
  • Experience with or exposure to container technology on z/OS (e.g. zCX) is a plus.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • IBM certifications (e.g. IBM Certified System Programmer z/OS).
  • Exposure to automation frameworks (e.g. Ansible Python scripting on z/OS) is a bonus.



7+ years as a Mainframe Systems Programmer, with strong expertise in IBM z/OS. Direct experience with z/OS 3.1, including support for post-migration environments. Proven ability to configure and troubleshoot z/OSMF v15, including workflow setup and REST APIs. Deep understanding of SMP/E, JCL, REXX, ISPF, TSO, and IBM utilities. Familiarity with mainframe security tools such as RACF, and understanding of MFA configurations. Experience with system monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., RMF, SMF, OMEGAMON). Familiarity with subsystems like CICS, DB2, or IMS is preferred. Experience with or exposure to container technology on z/OS (e.g., zCX) is a plus.
