Our flagship campus is in Sydney Australia but we engage our Contractors and Freelancers all over the world to help us meet our crazy big goals. As a Contract or Freelancer at Canva you can work remotely in the country listed on this job ad meaning you have ultimate flexibility. Wherever works for you works for us. This is a 5-month contract with full-time hours. 

What youd be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think thats all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things youll be working on when you start but this will likely evolve.

Were seeking a skilled Copywriter to support our mission of empowering design. This role involves collaborating with Art Directors to create impactful messaging for various high-visibility projects. Responsibilities include developing unique marketing ideas crafting clear and inspiring content across multiple channels and translating complex concepts into engaging language for diverse product lines. This work will enhance Canvas reach and user engagement through brand campaigns landing pages emails tutorials and more.

At the moment this role is focused on:

  • Partnering with Art Directors to develop ideas and execute messaging that is consistent effective and accessible across Canvas multi-channel campaigns.
  • Translating big complex ideas into clear user-friendly messaging that aligns with Canvas mission and vision.
  • Write review and edit flawless on-brand copy across channels ensuring each asset enhances user engagement.
  • Creating a playbook of high-quality content for a range of initiatives from brand campaigns to standalone assets working closely with designers strategists and producers.
  • Collaborating with the Creative Copy Lead to keep messaging on-brand and aligned with Canvas evolving strategic direction.
  • Balancing creativity simplicity and playfulness to create engaging compelling copy thats easy to digest and impactful.

Youre probably a match if

  • You have proven experience as a copywriter either agency or client side (in-house).
  • You have an understanding of brand marketing channels and advertising best practices.
  • You have a passion for innovative blue sky ideation and a strong desire to make impactful work that will help to build an iconic global brand.
  • Youre a team player. Able to work in a dynamic multi-skilled agile environment.
  • Youre a master storyteller able to sell the brand and its products to myriad demographics and personas with a consistent tone of voice.
  • Attention to detail style and tone. You write with clarity and empathy and can write in a range of genres styles and tones.
  • You have a good grasp of English sentence construction and grammatical structure. And because less than 50% of our community is English speaking you consider the needs of internationalisation in every word.
  • You bring others along for the ride. Set expectations with stakeholders communicate openly across multiple teams and collaborate with multiple creatives to get the job done.
  • Youre not precious. Open to giving and receiving feedback and can clearly articulate how copy can be improved.

Canvas in-house creative team is on a mission to make Canva the most loved brand in the world. We work from concept to creation on world-class creative across brand communications marketing campaigns editorial content and production.
