Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

The US Igs & Surgicals Medical Director is an integral member of the US Specialty Care Medical Leadership Team and reports directly to the VP US SC Medical Lead.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the Igs & Surgicals Portfolios Medical strategy and planning in partnership with Global Medical Affairs Clinical Affairs and GMPE Leads and the Commercial Regulatory and Platform functions.

  • Accountable for delivery of strategic plans and for all knowledge generating activities on the Portfolios area assets including medical lifecycle planning and execution.

  • Develop medically driven Portfolios expansion strategy based on novel disease areas patient populations and product presentations.

  • Partner with BD Marketing and WWBD and CD on the strategy execution.

  • In partnership with BD develop and execute external sourcing projects and activities based on medical evidence.

  • Create a presence at key clinical and scientific conferences to continuously screen latest medical landscape and clinical evidence.

  • Perform medical evaluation of external opportunities to determine if they are suitable for further cross-functional evaluation.

  • In partnership with PRD and CD generate internal product innovation projects and present them at the appropriate workstreams.

  • Partner with BD and to transition opportunities to due diligence and/or monitoring their continuing development and evolution.

  • Provide medical and operational oversight and leadership on key medical activities for the Portfolios.

  • Responsible for medical support for all US-based regulatory and safety activities related to the Portfolios in collaboration with the GMPE Leads.

  • Provide critical review of Medical Education Grants and Investigator Initiated Research proposals.

  • Provide subject matter expertise and strategic leadership on reformulation efforts abbreviated and supplemental submissions (aNDAs sNDa MMAs aMMAs) and rapid response teams to assure appropriate support for US business deliverables.

  • Provide medical leadership/partnership in the management of safety issues and safety letters.

  • Partner with WPM Pharm Sci and Clinical Affairs in the coordination of clinical oversight of FDA-mandated post marketing studies.

  • Provide critical review and medical input review and approval of promotional materials through the Review Committee.

  • Provide medical review of launch materials.

  • Partner with finance on budget planning and management.

  • Engage effectively in the knowledge transfer processes and synthesize large amounts of data/product information during the transition of products from Pfizer Therapeutic Area teams or from external acquisitions.

  • Manage any US medical peri-LoE strategy for the Portfolios constructively engaging other business units as required.

  • Compliant with all required SOPs and compliance training.

  • Provide technical and scientific evaluation of Licensing and Acquisition and Business Development candidates and product enhancements in close collaboration with Commercial Development.

  • Monitor global trends to identify opportunities for the assets in the portfolios.

  • Coordinate external stakeholder interactions and activities.

Basic Qualifications

Education

  • Doctoral degree in clinical/pharmacy specialty (Ph.D. PharmD).

Technical

  • Ability to analyze review and interpret bodies of data.

  • Search appropriate data bases/systems for clinical data and/or information.

  • Develop verbal and/or written arguments in a logical and cogent manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on Review Committees.

  • Business acumen and experience in product growth activities including product launch activities; knows the industry; knowledgeable in current and possible future trends technology and information affecting his/her business and organization; knows the competition; is aware of how strategies and tactics work in the marketplace.

  • Creativity integrity and ability to work in a fast paced flexible and focused environment mandatory; gets more out of fewer resources.

  • Organizational Agility - Knowledgeable about how organizations work; knows how to get things done both through formal channels and the informal network; understands the origin and reasoning behind key policies practices and procedures; understands the cultures of organizations.

Experience

  • 5 years of experience in a pharmaceutical/clinical/scientific professional environment.

  • Proactive pragmatic flexible person with excellent leadership qualities strategic thinking communication & presentation skills required.

  • Broad expertise in medical affairs and strong experience with regulatory and/or safety risk management issues.

  • Experience in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders in a professional and enthusiastic manner required. Must work well on multiple tasks and effectively prioritize to meet personal and team goals in a matrixed team environment.

  • Creativity in messaging and creating product growth initiatives and evaluating external business development opportunities highly desirable.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $169700.00 to $282900.00. In addition this position is eligible for participation in Pfizers Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
