- Clean samples in the lab according to material type
- Rehouse materials as necessary to ensure proper storage and preservation
- Identify measure and catalog samples in the master database
- Locate samples and update database records upon request
40% Database Management
- Develop a comprehensive master database for tracking samples using previous databases as references
- Regularly update catalog entries to reflect current information
- Maintain detailed records of work completed including metadata
10% Research-Related Administrative Tasks and Support
- Assist with manuscript formatting source identification and literature review
- Create figures from images or research notes for use in publications or presentations
- Digitize and organize research-related records

This position supports research and laboratory activities through a combination of hands-on tasks and organizational responsibilities. The student assistant is responsible for organizing cataloging cleaning and maintaining order within the laboratory space. Additional duties include assisting with the digital management of field and laboratory records conducting literature reviews and documentation and developing figures based on laboratory notes. This role may occasionally require physical activity such as lifting items up to 50 lbs or using stepstools to access storage areas.

Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are
not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
