60%: Work in-person and online with undergraduate and graduate student writers from across the KU Lawrence and Edwards campus. All in-person appointments will be on-site with students from Edwards campus. Foster student learning by asking questions collaborating with writers during consultations and teaching important writing strategies and concepts. Provide technology research reading and writing support to students working on multimodal projects including communication technical writing projects and competency-based assessments.
20%: Participate in ongoing partnerships with a variety of classes/departments across campus. These partnerships may require facilitating writing groups delivering presentations participating in events workshops or other forms of writing support as determined by the instructor and the Writing Center staff.
10%: Participate in ongoing tutor education. Tutor education includes reading writing center research participating in group discussions and inquiry groups attending regular all-staff meetings and engaging in the intellectual work of the writing center.
5%: Maintain an organized orderly and safe learning environment. Participate in creating and maintaining a positive team environment.
5%: Other duties as assigned.

Position OverviewUnit Overview:
KUs Wingspan: Center for Learning and Writing Support offers a portfolio of collaborative innovative academic support programs and services to students faculty and staff. The Wingspan provides individual and group support through its Peer Academic Coaching program Supplemental Instruction (SI) program Learning and Tutoring Services and Writing Center Services. The Wingspan is a part of the University Academic Support Centers (UASC) a comprehensive student support program consisting of two unique centers designed to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas. UASC supports the Universitys commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. UASC programs encourage student participation both in and out of the classroom support academic and personal development and link students to other campus and community resources for academic and personal support and development. University Academic Support Centers is a department within Academic Affairs.
KU Edwards Campus: The University of Kansas Edwards Campus is located in Overland Park KS strategically placed to bring permanent growth and education to the greater Kansas City area by providing courses to working professionals transfer students and international students. While classes can be held at any time during the day most classes are held in the evenings between 4pm and 9pm.
Position Overview:
The Writing Consultant will deliver one-on-one writing support to undergraduate and graduate students at KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park KS. Tutoring will take place both in person (drop-in and by appointment on Edwards Campus) and virtually via Zoom. Zoom appointments will be offered to any KU student in need of support. To meet student needs tutoring hours will mostly take place in the evenings 2-3 days per week Monday-Friday though virtual appointments on the weekends may be a future request depending on tutors availability. The Writing Consultant will also help lead drop-in writing groups where KU students can come together in-person and virtually to complete individual writing projects.
