Job Description

At Peel CAS our mission is to protect children and strengthen families & communities through partnership. We are currently seeking the following professional to join our team:

Job Title: Child Protection Worker (Ongoing)
Department: Parent and Child Capacity Building
Application Deadline: July 25 2025
Hourly Grade:Unauthorized Workers: $38.15
Authorized Workers: $41.38 - $53.30

Summary of Duties & Responsibilities:

Reporting to Parent and Child Capacity Building Supervisor the child protection worker provides for the protection of children as defined by the Child Youth& Family Services Act. The role of the child protection worker is to assess the risks and strengths of families in the community and to support families in building their capacities to care for their children. The focus of this position will be to assume responsibility for temporary assignments in any function including Assessment Ongoing Family Placement (CIC) and Kinship in any of our service branches in order to ensure the protection of children as prescribed under the Child Youthand Family Services Act of Ontario. The key responsibilities of this role are on assessing risk well-being and planning for permanency through strong collaboration with families our agency and community partners.

This position supports and contributes to the agencys commitments to Leadership Excellence Strength Based Practice and Anti-Oppressive Practice along with the Agencys mission values and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Social Workor Masters ofSocial Work degree from a recognized university and at least one year of related experience in a child protection role.
    OR
  • A Bachelors Degree from a recognized university in a related field and at least one year of related experience in a child protection related role.
  • A class G drivers license and daily access to a vehicle are required.

Required Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience in a variety of functions within the Society
  • Flexibility to work in different location including co-locating with community organizations as required
  • Good understanding of the Child Youthand Family Services Act and other relevant child welfare legislation the Ontario Risk Assessment model and Society policies procedures and guidelines as they relate to Society programs and services
  • Demonstrated skills in the areas of risk assessment and safety planning
  • Demonstrated comfort in the use of authority and high skills in goal directed casework
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear and concise reports and to be able to meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to handle crises in a calm manner and work co-operatively within a team setting as well as the ability to elicit co-operation from others
  • Effective communication skills and competence in problem-solving and conflict resolution
  • Computer skills in current and new Agency programs
  • Flexible strong competent and able to work independently
  • High energy level enjoys stimulation and thrives on variety and change
  • Experience in multiple service areas is considered an asset
  • Proficiency in the French language considered an asset

Hours of Work:

  • 9am-5pm Monday to Friday
  • Working hours may vary and applicants must be flexible to work outside of standard office hours.
