Job Description

Under the supervision of the Senior Underground Geotechnical Engineer the Underground Geotechnical Technician supports ground control execution through geotechnical monitoring quality assurance testing and data collection. Key responsibilities include:

Operational Responsibilities

  • Install calibrate and troubleshoot geotechnical instruments (e.g. MPBX seismographs microseismic sensors).
  • Support underground development and stope blast vibration monitoring programs.
  • Conduct strength testing for grout shotcrete and backfill; assist with bolt pull testing.
  • Maintain and update the geotechnical database ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in preparing QAQC reports and support laboratory mix design trials.
  • Calculate and track backfill volumes to support stope backfill design and optimization.

Health Safety and Environment

  • Comply with OceanaGold Health and Safety Policy and Environment Policy.
  • Report all personal injuries and incidents assisting with investigations.
  • Actively support and participate in safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Monitor workplace incidents and hazards reporting to ensure effective risk mitigation.

 


Qualifications :

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required. Some college education is preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of experienced in underground mining environment.
  • Experience in managing databases and troubleshoot field instrumentations preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel Word or Powerpoint will be advantageous.
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI) Testing certifications will be advantageous but not required.
  • Ability to operate production support equipment preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work 10-hour shifts climb 25-foot vertical ladder sections unaided and work at heights on elevated platforms.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and work in various mining environments (open pit underground dam infrastructure) with exposure to temperature and humidity extremes.
  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment including hard hat hearing protection safety glasses safety footwear and other protective gear as needed.
