Job Description
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Nazarbayev University invites applications for a position of Assistant Professor in Sociology or Anthropology to begin in August 2020. We are particularly interested in candidates with a research focus on topics broadly concerning culture values identity race and ethnicity religion and/or nationalism. A focus on the Eurasian region is desirable but not essential.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory courses as well as upper- level courses in Sociology or Anthropology at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as methods courses. Responsibilities include a 2/2 teaching load research and departmental and School service. The University offers opportunities for research support. This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.
Qualifications :
- a Ph.D. in Sociology or Anthropology from an accredited and recognized international university (ABD at time of application will be considered but Ph.D. must be in hand at the time of appointment and current Ph.D. holders will be given priority);
- Teaching experience at the university level;
- An active research agenda (as evidenced by prior peer-reviewed publications or demonstrated ability to publish immediately upon appointment);
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills;
- Commitment to maintaining a collegial and inclusive work environment.
