Description:
The Academic Advisor and Program Specialist role provides advising support and coaching via personal connected relationships with online undergraduate graduate and/or seminary students to assist with registration support student success and facilitate program completion. Reports to the Executive Director of Online and Graduate Student Services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cooperate with program coordinators/directors to enroll new students by consulting with the Registrars Office to review transcripts and prepare a degree audit and providing program-specific information as needed.
- Maintain a case load of approximately 120 advisees serving as the primary point-of-contact to provide personal and on-going program guidance support for scheduling and registration for each term advocacy for students in need and coaching for ministerial and/or career exploration.
- Effectively utilize University systems to prepare and maintain program plans monitor academic progress and ensure degree requirements are met for graduation.
- Offer meetings with advisees (by phone virtual meeting or in-person appointment) at least once per academic term to review program plans track academic progress and discuss personal and/or professional goals.
- Assist in the collection of enrollment assessment and retention data.
- Provide guidance counseling information and support to new and current students and their families with financial aid payment and related processes.
- Coordinate support intervention and/or spiritual care for students making unsatisfactory academic progress or experiencing disruptions in their personal or professional lives.
- Identify non-completers and coordinate outreach to encourage re-enrollment and program completion.
- Coordinate with program faculty and/or seminary Student Life personnel to provide orientation for newly admitted students at the beginning of each term.
- Represent Online and Graduate Student Services at University functions and/or assigned committees.
- Participate in strategic planning and continual improvement processes to expand enrollment improve program quality and/or increase student satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- Active Christian faith and disciplined life.
- Commitment to and participation in the Assemblies of God.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in use of software for presentation communication and collaboration.
- Masters degree (or higher) in a related field (e.g. ministry theology or leadership).
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in higher education (Christian higher education or seminary experience is preferred).
- Experience working with/in Assemblies of God churches or organizations.
- Familiarity with adult learning theories and best practices.
- Proficient use of software for communication and collaboration; experience using Office 365 and a CSM preferred.
