Joining and participating in the day-to-day function of our CloudOps Engineers.
Participate as required in on-call rotations for critical incidents and remediation.
Promote and mentor Agile Scrum and Lean methodologies within.
Contribute to continuous improvement constantly reviewing process and identifying bottlenecks that could be improved through automation.
Provide technical leadership for tools and platforms used within the team as Subject Matter Expert for 2-3 of them.
Educate and Mentor other members of the IT organization who have been part of the legacy data centre IT organization and are not familiar with modern Cloud architecture and Cloud tools/methods.
Provide weekly reports to management on the state of projects technical debt and work items.
Contribute to the on-boarding and training of new and more junior team members.
Ensure all voices are heard and that people are treated with respect.
Maintain an ongoing awareness of changes within the company and within our tech stacks.
Any other activities as may be reasonably requested by lead technical or management.
Develop and Maintain: Develop and maintain scalable reliable and secure cloud infrastructure on AWS. Leverage Terraform for infrastructure as code to ensure reproducibility and version control of cloud resources.
Automation and Optimization: Automate deployment scaling and management processes using tools like Terraform Ansible etc. Optimize cloud resources for cost performance and security.
Deployment Pipeline Management: Build and maintain continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to facilitate rapid and safe code deployments.
Observability and Troubleshooting: Implement monitoring solutions using tools like AWS CloudWatch Prometheus and Grafana. Proactively identify and troubleshoot infrastructure issues. Debugging and troubleshooting complex problems in cloud-native infrastructure.
Security and Compliance: Ensure adherence to security best practices and compliance standards including managing IAM roles and policies and implementing security groups and network ACLs.
Disaster Recovery and High Availability: Design and implement disaster recovery strategies. Ensure high availability of services and infrastructure.
Training and Development: ongoing training and personal development. Cloud and DevOps Certifications will be required. Keep abreast with industry best practices and effective tools.
At GFL we leverage a robust technology stack and continually evaluate and adopt the latest tools to streamline our operations and ensure we remain at the forefront of innovation. As a prospective team member you will play a pivotal role in working with cutting-edge technologies and participating in exciting projects. Our current technology stack and ongoing evaluations are as follows:
1. AWS (Amazon Web Services): We rely on AWS for cloud infrastructure providing us with the scalability security and flexibility needed to support our dynamic work environment.
2. Terraform: We utilize Terraform as our Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tool enabling us to manage and automate the provisioning and configuration of our infrastructure in a consistent and efficient manner.
3. AZDO (Azure DevOps): GFL has a significant presence in Windows-based systems and we currently utilize AZDO for specific purposes. However we are actively exploring opportunities to enhance our workflows and are considering a transition to more efficient enterprise Open alternatives like GitHub.
4. Windows Environment: We are primarily a Windows shop and you will be working within this ecosystem to maintain and optimize our systems and applications. As our application move to cloud tech stack and MSA browser and tablet OS will play a bigger role.
5. Ansible (Under Evaluation): As we look to streamline and enhance our infrastructure management we are in the process of evaluating Ansible as a potential configuration management and automation tool. Your expertise and input will be valuable in this assessment.
6. GitHub (Under Evaluation): We are in the midst of evaluating a transition from AZDO to GitHub for source code management collaboration and DevOps workflows. Your involvement will be instrumental in this assessment and migration process.
7. Cloud (Under Consideration): While we have been utilizing Terraform for our infrastructure management we are actively considering a move to Terraform Cloud or a similar solution to further enhance our infrastructure orchestration and collaboration capabilities.
8. OPA REGO (or Similar Desired): Experience with Open Policy Agent (OPA) and the Rego policy language is a plus. Knowledge in this area will be beneficial as we explore policy enforcement and compliance as part of our infrastructure management and security initiatives.
As a member of our team you will be actively involved in these ongoing projects contributing your expertise to drive technological advancements streamline processes and ensure our systems are secure and efficient. Your role will encompass system configuration automation and integration as well as the exploration and implementation of new tools to meet the evolving needs of the organization.
