The Department
Alfred Health Pharmacy is well recognised for high quality and innovative patient- focused services education and training programmes as well as significant research output. The service operates over 4 sites within Alfred Health and continually advocates for postgraduate learning and research interests with supportive partnerships and expert mentors available to foster staff development.
The department also has a leading Digital Health strategy playing a pivotal role in managing the electronic medication management system within our comprehensive electronic medical record (Cerner) with an advanced level of integration linking this to the Pharmacy Dispensing (iPharmacy) and Automated Medication Storage systems (Omnicell). This is complemented by a strong clinical presence and a Centre for Medicine Use and Safety program to achieve a considered safe and financially responsible approach to medication management within Alfred Heath.

Our pharmacists are recognised as essential members of all clinical teams actively engaging in a unit and team-based care model involving ward rounds and collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team to achieve excellent patient care outcomes. There are vast opportunities to engage in Advanced Scopes of Practice. This includes undertaking credentialing programs and leading clinical activities such as Partnered Pharmacist Medicine Charting Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Nicotine Replacement Therapy and Analgesia de-escalation to name a few.
The service has 3 key priorities:
- Practice
- Education
- Research
As part of these priorities the department holds a breadth of clinical stewardship and governance portfolios to ensure high quality and safety standards at all times. The department also has advanced Education programs with Foundation Residency and Advanced Training Residency to support career progression including opportunities to rotate to external hospitals.
Additionally the Learning and Development Team manages a number of unique portfolios:
- Clinical Trials CT Trial Hub credentialing program which supports hospital across Victoria and interstate to build capacity in their Pharmacy Clinical Trials workforce ( Pharmacy Learning & Development Hub which runs external programs in Clinical Pharmacy and Intensive care with more areas launching soon ( University Pharmacy Undergraduate program unit coordination
- Latrobe Health partnership in providing support for the development of educational and Residency programs at Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) involving an in-person commitment at LRH
The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist with experience in clinical pharmacy to join our Learning and Development Team as Senior Pharmacist Learning & Development. You may not have any formal experience in an education team but have a strong baseline of knowledge and skills to build on from clinical practice.
Working as a member of the Learning and Development Team supported by expert senior staff you will:
- Assist in the development and management of core clinical education activities including the design and implementation of key programs in our department.
- including intern undergraduate foundation residency and advanced residency programs as well as key clinical pharmacy credentialling programs
- Be assigned a part-time clinical pharmacy role and will contribute to improving medication management within a multidisciplinary team.
- Be supported to conduct practice-based research projects in clinical pharmacy and clinical education.
Key Skills required
- Ability to demonstrate leadership and decision making skills
- Problem-solving and risk assessment abilities and the ability to use initiative
- Excellent communication time management skills with the ability to prioritise plan and organise your work and deliver to deadlines
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
Qualifications & Experience required
- Registered pharmacist in Australia
- Relevant post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or leadership and management highly desirable
- Hospital pharmacy experience in a leadership position with a demonstrated understanding of contemporary practice in hospital pharmacy services
- Experience in leading and coaching highly effective team
