Job Summary
Responsibilities of the Investment Planning Team encompass a full range of forecasting budget management and investment analysis activities. The Lead FP&A Analyst performs these functions to manage the portfolio of operating companies within a particular state(s). This role is takes a cross-section of all the functional business lines and reviews the larger portfolio in relation to planned spend and regulatory commitments of that Company(s). This role acts as a key contributor to the overall success of meeting the target portfolio by Operating Company and this success requires depth and breadth of experience to interpret business situations assess issues recommend course corrections and implement best practice process improvements. A successful candidate will embrace opportunities to take on new challenges and be comfortable leading and motivating their peers. Additionally the candidate has excellent analytical skills a strong work ethic and an ability to self-task based on a desired outcome rather than step by step instruction.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and control the portfolio of capital projects attributable to a group of operating companies within a particular state (s). This includes creating and initial plan assessing trends validating forecasts tracking regulatory approvals identifying gaps and recommending course corrections. This is the key person responsible for the cross-section view of the operating company and understanding the implications on changes to regulatory and plan performance. This is critical role in rate case preparations and rate case decision implementation and adherence as it relates to the capital portfolio. (30% P)
- Leads planning project teams sponsors and executives in discussions regarding the operating company performance and providesrecommendations involving ideation of projects change controls and prioritization of the capital project portfolio to align forecasts with regulatory approvals and commitments. Requires weighing competing factors presenting scenarios and resolving gaps in the portfolio to identify and solve most often complex problems. (20% P)
- Measures compliance to goals guarantees approvals are in place realigns business area targets and reports on these measures and metrics to senior executives. Determines how and when funds should be reallocated between portfolios and identifies potential risks. Ensures spending occurs at the appropriate operating company and balance is maintained as projects are introduced changed and deferred.(10% P)
- Recognizes and recommends innovative process improvements and best practices to resolve business area and planning issues. Incorporates the use of new or enhancement of current tools to accomplish process improvements to increase efficiency accuracy and timeliness. (10% S)
- Communicates with business area leaders executives project teams and peers to understand issues and propose resolution. Builds rapport actively listens and creates an atmosphere of approachability to facilitate information sharing. May be required to present monthly results and projections discuss issues and agree to course corrections. (10% P)
- Plans and organizes own work day and tasks working without direct supervision to initiate change to work practices or policies or their own personal working style understand the operational environment and adapt accordingly and act proactively and with integrity. (10% P)
- Understands applies and ensures compliance with project management practices and standards. Possess the ability to assess current project status implement tracking metrics and assess the effects on portfolio. (10% S)
Required Qualifications
- Education & Experience Required:
- Bachelors degree in engineering finance business or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Project Management Professional (PMP) or MBA preferred
- Seven years of experience in finance accounting project management engineering or related field.
- Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency in SAP (required) and project portfolio management systems (preferred).
- Must have excellent analytical skills top tier Excel and PowerPoint skills and strong leadership skills.
- Candidates should have broad experience leveraging their analytical expertise in a wide variety business situations and feel comfortable using this expertise to help other team members.
- Utility experience preferred.
