The Assistant Director of Recruitment and Selection is responsible for a range of responsibilities related to the mission of the college and the department. The Assistant Director serves as a member of the Residence Life leadership team and is responsible for coordinating and implementing all aspects of student and staff recruitment and selection throughout the department. Additionally the Assistant Director will supervise Community Directors and take part in Departmental projects that require partnership with other Assistant Directors in Residence Life and Offices within the Office of Student Life
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Required:
- Bachelors required
- At least 2 years of relevant experience
Preferred:
- Masters degree in Higher Education Student Affairs or relevant field
- 3-5 years of relevant experience
Experience and Training
- Experience in complex decision-making
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience supervising staff
- Experience developing rapport in one-on-one relationships
- Experience supervision of full-time staff
- Established practice of encouraging full community involvement

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Recruitment and Selection
- Chair and lead the Selection Committee which is comprised of professional staff and graduate students from the Office of Residence Life.
- Assess plan and implement the recruitment and hiring process for all student staff positions (Senior RA Resident Assistant Summer RA Community Assistant Office Assistant Graduate Assistant)
- Work with student employment to ensure students are properly onboarding and to remain in compliance with student employment policies
- Coordinates recruiting efforts for all professional staff positions
- Organize selection committee to review applicants conduct interviews and select candidates for hiring
- Organizing all on-campus interviews and ensuring staff are trained in best practices for interviewing
- Partners with HR to ensure positions are properly posted and staff are properly on-boarded
- Advises the Residence Life communications and marketing committee which is chaired by a Community Director
- Ensures the committee is managing social media sites properly
- Ensures staff create marketing materials to promote department events and initiatives
- Ensures committee is aligned with University communication standards
Supervision:
- Supervise Community Directors
- Ensures proper oversight of their designated community
- Ensures proper management of various software systems (Maxient StarRez eRezLife)
- Ensures proper supervision of student (graduate and undergraduate) staff
- Ensures proper execution of the residential curriculum: community meetings programming Panther Chats (intentional conversations) bulletin boards
- Participates in evaluation conversations for staff
- Manages any escalations as result of the communities the Community Directors oversee
- Responsible for the overall development of Community Directors
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Assists with management of department budget
- Assists in implementation of management of software systems (Maxient StarRez eRezlife Workday etc.)
- Serves on various divisional and college committees.
- Responds to concerns from students parent/guardian faculty and staff.
- Serve in on-call rotations for department
- Assists with designing and interpreting various assessments done within the department.
- Assists with administrative aspects of hall openings and closings at breaks.
- Assists with Open House and Orientation events
- Oversee student staff pay in conjunction with HR and Student Employment

- Assists in the formation of policies that govern residential life; to assist students in understanding policies established for community living; to work with staff members in dealing with inappropriate behavior they encounter and in developing programs to address those problems; and to adjudicate cases through the campus conduct process.
- Stays abreast of best practices and student needs in Housing and Residence Life to ensure our department is serving our students best
- Promotes the safety of students student property and the property of the University
- To undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested or assigned by the Director of Residence Life
