Reporting to the Manager Interprofessional Practice the Extern Mentor Coordinator will support the education and development of clinical externs by providing mentorship support team integration extern coordination and overall program implementation and evaluation at the point of care.
To accomplish this the Clinical Extern Coordinator must take an active role by working closely with the externs to provide coaching training support helping them define a strong career development plan and serve as a role model for the extern.
Accountabilities:
- Contribute to extern onboarding and ongoing education and practice development within the boundaries of the extern role
- Support training and integration of externs at the organizational and unit level by demonstrating a good understanding of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) professional standards when working with unregulated health care workers
- Support nurse externs practice and integration into the clinical area in accordance with organizational and professional standards and in collaboration with clinical teams
- Create adapt and deliver orientation and learning resources using various delivery methods in accordance with organizational and unit policies/practices/guidelines

- Provide ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the extern role including the creation of learning goals and objectives (development of action plans and identification or any barriers to learning will also be an expectation)
- Serve as a liaison and conduit between unit leadership Professional Practice and Operations
- Providing feedback to clinical externs
- Supporting integration with teams
- Working with charge nurse educator and managers in supporting clinical externs in their clinical area
Qualifications :
- Current registration and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Masters degree considered an asset
- Minimum of three years of experience in teaching working with learners or precepting
- Minimum of three years of acute care experience

Hours: Currently days including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
Salary:
Minimum: $45.34/hourly
Maximum: $52.00/hourly
