Job Description

This position is OPEN UNTIL FILLED after the mandatory 10 day posting window

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Collaborate with and provide support for staff students and parents to address and manage children with challenging and severe behaviors. Positively impact the education of disabled students who have ADHD autism emotional disturbance and/or behavioral challenges

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

Bachelors Degree

Masters Degree preferred

Special Education certification preferred

Threeyears teaching experience preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting and implementation

Knowledge of behavior and social skill intervention techniques and methodology

Work with students with pervasive developmental disabilities

Develop and deliver training to adult learners

Maintain emotional control under stress

Interpret policy procedures and data

Effective communication skills in a variety of settings (professional development parent communication student interactions etc.)

Analyze student level data to determine appropriate considerations for programming needs

Solve problems of differing complexities

Work Conditions:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; frequent walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities control behavior through physical restraint assist nonambulatory students and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district-wide travel; statewide travel and occasional out-of-state travel

Regular Attendance is an Essential Function

Minimum Experience:

Prefer three years experience teaching or working in the field of special education

Experience in working with children and adolescents who experience behavior challenges.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Collaborate with ARD committees to develop implement and monitor behavior intervention plans and/or functional behavior assessments for students in special education.
  2. Develop implement and monitor behavioral IEPs as appropriate.
  3. Provide crisis intervention support for students teachers and administrators.
  4. Collaborate with Behavior Intervention Counselors to provide crisis intervention support.
  5. Provide staff development in social skills training behavior intervention strategies and emergency response techniques.
  6. Provide support to school staff to prevent students with disabilities from entering a more restrictive environment.
  7. Facilitate transition from more restrictive to less restrictive environments.
  8. Facilitate transistion to BASE classes as needed.
  9. Participate in admission review and dismissal (ARD) committee meetings.
  10. Work collaboratively with parents teachers and other staff members to ensure success in meeting individual educational plan (IEP) goals.
  11. Consult with district and outside resources regarding education social medical and personal needs of students.
  12. Keep informed of and comply with federal state district and school regulations and policies for special education.
  13. Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and local board policy in the area of instructional technology.
  14. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required.
  15. Ensure confidentiality.
  16. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  17. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
  18. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
