Job Description

Title of Position:

Literacy Supervisor K-12

Salary:

In accordance with the School Administrators Association Contract

Organizational Relationship

or Line of Authority:

Directly responsible to the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for matters pertaining to curriculum and instruction and to the Superintendent of Schools or their designees.

Overview:

Marlborough Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable K12 Literacy Supervisor with a strong foundation in early literacy and reading instruction as well as the capacity to lead district-wide literacy efforts across all grade levels. This individual will provide instructional leadership oversee literacy programming and support educators in implementing evidence-based high-quality instruction aligned to state standards and district goals.

This role is ideal for a results-oriented literacy leader who can connect vision to execution ensures coherence across the district and brings deep expertise in early literacy to drive student success at all grade levels.

Statement of Duties:

Instructional Leadership & Curriculum Oversight

  • Serve as the districts instructional leader for literacy in grades K12 with a priority focus on early literacy and foundational reading skills.
  • Support alignment coherence and instructional excellence in all literacy programs.
  • Lead the design implementation and evaluation of curriculum instruction and assessment initiatives in literacy.
  • Model effective instruction and mentor educators as needed.
  • Coordinate the selection of high-quality research-based instructional materials and resources.
  • Oversee curricular revisions in line with the districts curriculum cycle.

Data-Driven Supervision & Evaluation

  • Supervise and evaluate educators in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent.
  • Lead the analysis of student data including MCAS and other state assessments to inform instructional decisions and identify gaps.
  • Track and support implementation of district and student intervention plans to close achievement gaps.

Professional Development & Coaching

  • Plan and deliver district-wide professional development in literacy especially targeting early literacy foundational reading and evidence-based practices.
  • Work collaboratively with school leaders to build educator capacity.
  • Provide leadership and support for implementing state and district literacy initiatives.

Collaboration & Operational Leadership

  • Work closely with principals and district leaders to foster a school climate that supports literacy achievement and student growth.
  • Assist with grant writing budget development and resource allocation related to literacy.
  • Participate in staff selection processes and onboarding of literacy personnel.

  • Works the requisite hours needed to meet the responsibilities of the aforementioned job description and be responsible for other instructional and general duties as indicated by the directives of the Superintendent of Schools or their designee and policies of the Marlborough Public Schools School Committee.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed as a Supervisor/Director by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) with certification in the Reading (All Levels).
  • SEI Endorsement required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a Reading Teacher with demonstrated expertise in early literacy instruction.
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in K12 literacy including curriculum assessment and intervention.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/Portuguese) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead coach and evaluate instructional staff.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
