ROLE SUMMARY:
A School Crossing Guard at Cincinnati Public Schools is responsible for ensuring the safety of students and pedestrians during school arrival and dismissal times. The guard manages traffic flow assists students in safely crossing streets and monitors behavior at crosswalks. They maintain effective communication with school officials local law enforcement and the community to uphold a safe environment. This role requires vigilance reliability and a strong commitment to student safety.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct pedestrians across streets after assessing traffic flow to identify breaks to allow for visibility and safe crossing.
- Guide motorists through traffic patterns designed to keep pedestrians safe and inform drivers of detours if required.
- Understand the traffic laws signs and speed limits posted within a designated jurisdiction to effectively guide vehicles and people.
- Communicate crossing rules and regulations to students and ensure their understanding for optimal safety.
- Collaborate with other school and district personnel assigned police officers representatives of local agencies etcetera for the purpose of providing information and or taking action regarding investigations.
- Collaborate with officials to develop traffic patterns that are conducive to safety efficiency and convenience.
- Maintain a crossing area that is free of hazards and employ the appropriate tools and equipment including lights flags and hand signals.
- Identify drivers who are speeding or driving carelessly and notify authorities by documenting their license plate number.
- Watch for impending dangers to develop effective solutions before an accident occurs.
- Report the unsafe behavior of students to school officials to reduce the risk of someone getting hurt while crossing or waiting to cross the street.
- Promote good social relationships among students.
- Respond to students in a kind fair and interested manner.
- Attend all required in-service and safety meetings.
- Perform all other duties assigned or requested.
- Uphold district policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate professionalism exhibit a professional attitude and model appropriate behavior.
Work Schedule: School Year Only - 171 Work Days
Salary: $15.00/hour
Hours: Part-time
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of FBI and BCI background checks required
- Experience working with or around K-12 children and/or families
- At least 18 years old
- Demonstrate a sincere desire to work with youth and/or families
- Strong eyesight and hearing
- Abilities to work with diverse populations
