Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

This Analyst role will support Senior Advisors and Sponsors with the planning implementation and monitoring of Metrolinxs GO Bus Network. The analyst may also carry out technical transportation analysis of new GO bus and rail services and other Metrolinx transit service as well as associated infrastructure requirements.

Type of role: Contract/Temporary Assignment up to 6 Months

What will I be doing

  • Assist in the preparation and inputs to materials for various project approvals at corporate governance bodies including the Investment Panel Change Control Board Metrolinx Board Treasury Board etc.
  • Supports the Sponsor(s) with monitoring of bus project risks constraints and contingencies to avoid additional project costs penalties and delays; and proactively escalate issues to the Sponsors.
  • Contributing to the development review and monitoring of various GO bus initiatives including business cases benefits realization plans funding submissions and performance requirements and measures (KPIs)
  • Helps in the coordination of project requirements for bus investments and other initiatives including research working group facilitation and documentation of requirements (infrastructure operational maintenance fleet customer experience other).
  • Conducts initial analyses research and studies in support of planning in the transit investment area with a focus on bus; provides advice with respect to technical and socio-economic impacts and considerations of capital investment and planning issues
  • Support business case analyses for new and revised GO Bus service as well as service-related infrastructure with the goal to maximize ridership enhancing the customer experience while minimizing resource needs
  • Contributes to the development of new strategies presents conclusions and recommendations to the Senior Advisor or Sponsor and suggests alternate strategies associated with possible transit initiatives/capital investments for bus.
  • Work to ensure alignment of plans with transit policies factoring in impacts costs benefits and other considerations in a timely manner
  • Acts as liaison to stakeholders to assist and provide information on/or interpretation/application of business programs
  • Conduct resource and ridership impact analysis related to service proposals to accommodate ridership growth adapt to changing markets operate more cost-effective services and meet other Metrolinx policy objectives.
  • Support efforts to critically analyze service and infrastructure proposals to ensure alignment with organizational strategic directions construction timelines operational constraints customer impact and demand as well as available resources.
  • Prepare agendas coordinate attend and take minutes for daily technical/operational meetings.
  • Collaborates with internal and external contacts as necessary to gather business requirements during the initiation development and implementation of assigned projects.
  • Recommends approaches to meeting project goals considering business needs along with internal and external factors.
  • Sets project team priorities to meet senior executive expectations of timeliness and quality.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need

  • Completion of a degree in Engineering Public Policy Planning Business or a related discipline or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in urban planning/transportation planning or transit infrastructure preferably in the public sector is preferred.
  • Knowledge of theories principles and practices of transportation transit planning service delivery communication and protocol development
  • Clear analytical thinking problem solving skills and adaptability combined with strong organizational skills undertaking literature reviews and conducting internet and survey research using spreadsheets
  • Proficiency in geospatial analysis quantitative analysis ridership forecasting and service cost estimation are an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint etc.)
  • Experience with geospatial tools (ArcGIS) are an asset
  • Interpersonal public relations and oral/written/presentation communication skills
