Job Description

Classification Title:

OPS or STAS Field Forestry Technician

Classification Minimum Requirements:

Familiar with forest inventory measurements (tree height diameter) and identification of common pine disease traits.

Available to work outdoors and walk through uneven terrain under different weather conditions which may include high outdoor temperatures (above 85 F) rain stagnant ground water.

Available for occasional multi-day travel (2-3 consecutive days with overnight stays).

Job Description:

Essential functions and responsibilities:

Assist in plot measurement and demarcation

Conduct forest inventory measurements and forest health assessments within pine commercial stands

Travel to different study sites located in Florida Geogia and Alabama which may involve 2-3 consecutive days.

Able to reach above head height to collect tree branches.

Able to lift and transport items of up to 50 lb such as forest inventory equipment pole pruners and saws PVC pipes and tree branches in uneven terrain.

Assist in greenhouse tasks such as watering and moving pine seedlings.

Included with job description:

Transportation from UF Main campus to field site and back

Hotel lodging and meal reimbursement through multi-day travel

PPE (visibility vests hard hats snake chaps sunscreen insect repellent cooling gear)

Expected Salary:

$15.00 Hourly

Required Qualifications:

Valid Florida Drivers license up to date and clean driving record.

Preferred:

Familiar with forest inventory measurements (tree height diameter) and identification of common pine disease traits.

Available to work outdoors and walk through uneven terrain under different weather conditions which may include high outdoor temperatures (above 85 F) rain stagnant ground water.

Available for occasional multi-day travel (2-3 consecutive days with overnight stays).
