Position Title: Electronic Resources Librarian Department: Library

Title of Immediate Supervisor/Leader to Whom This Position Reports: Library Director

*Expected Daily Work Hours: 8:00am 5:00pm *Expected Weekly Work Schedule: Monday Friday

* College offices are normally open from 8:00 AM until 5:00PM Monday through Friday. However due to the nature of responsibility to the student body individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening or weekend hours. Non-exempt employees will normally work 8 hours per (any hours more than 40 per week) for non-exempt employees is required to be approved in advance by the department supervisor. Exempt employees will typically work at least 40 hours per week and such additional time as may be reasonably required to fulfill the obligations of their position description. Such additional work may include evenings and weekends and should be described in this document.

Summary of this position:

The Electronic Resources Librarian supports access to the Lamar Memorial Librarys digital information resources through the configuration and administration of the librarys software systems. The Electronic Resources Librarian must have the analytical and technical skills needed to troubleshoot authentication and access issues and the ability to show patience tact and understanding in communicating with students vendors and colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications Required: (please be specific and respond to every question; indicate none if not applicable)

Education required to ensure success in this position:

  • American Library Association accredited MLIS or equivalent experience.

Experience required to ensure success in this position:

  • Three to five years experience working with electronic resources management in academic libraries.

Special skills knowledge and abilities:

  • Must have experience using EBSCOadmin / EBSCO Experience Manager software to create search profiles manage digital information holdings and provide access to full text.
  • Must have experience configuring EBSCOs EDS discovery system.
  • Must have experience administering OCLCs WorldShare Management System.
  • Must have working knowledge of OpenAthens authentication software.
  • Must have working knowledge of IP authentication proxy authentication url syntax and custom linking.
  • Prefer familiarity with the administrative modules of research databases from EBSCO Gale ProQuest and other academic vendors.
  • Experience with API integrations and familiarity with MeeScan and SpringShare library software helpful.

License certification or registration necessary:

  • None

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Environmental conditions:

  • Professional office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequent visitors students staff and faculty.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:

  • Ability to use standard office equipment.

Primary duties and responsibilities (Typically 7 primary duties comprised of 80% of the responsibilities):

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ensures accurate and reliable access to the librarys electronic information resources.

  • Manages all aspects of the EBSCOadmin / EBSCO experience manager portals including search profile creation holdings management and authentication.
  • Administers the OCLC WorldShare Management system.
  • Tracks electronic information holdings in WMS Collection Manager.
  • Manages SSO authentication of electronic and streaming resources using OpenAthens.
  • Manages IP proxy authentication in all systems/with all vendors.
  • Constructs and maintains custom URL links.
  • Explores options to integrate vendor API data in local systems and services.
  • Provides technical support to troubleshoot and resolve electronic information access issues.
  • Communicates with vendors college IT and library staff regarding e-resource technical issues.

Coordinates selection and licensing of electronic information resources.

  • Coordinates selection and licensing of research databases including trials of new databases.
  • Maintains e-resource management records to track vendor contacts and licensing and subscription information.
  • Selects and maintains streaming media entitlements.
  • Manages entitlements from ebook / electronic serials subscription packages including EBA and DDA programs.

Collects and analyzes data on electronic information resource use.

  • Compiles analyzes and reports e-resource usage statistics from OpenAthens EDS and vendor platforms using COUNTER code of practice in support of collection development decision making and library assessment activities.

Promotes awareness and use of electronic information resources.

  • Ensures that online resources are accessible and seamlessly integrated into the library web site.
  • Customizes search interfaces for the librarys electronic resources.
  • Incorporates College and Library branding into electronic resource interfaces.
  • Develops subject guides and instructional materials supporting electronic resource use.
  • Develops communication plan /outreach initiatives for advertising the librarys electronic resources.
  • Teaches workshops introducing electronic resources to faculty and students.

Supports the Colleges digital scholarship initiatives.

Other essential responsibilities/abilities:

  • Maintains documentation of e-resources workflow policies and procedures.
  • Participates in physical and digital collection development.
  • Ability to communicate in writing and orally.

Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive respectful learning environment for all staff faculty and students.
