Description

Position Title: Program Coordinator of Mountain Challenge Part Time Department: Mountain Challenge

Title of Immediate Supervisor/Leader to Whom This Position Reports: HSOS Division Chair and VP and Dean of the College

*Expected Daily Work Hours: 8:00am 5:00pm; hours may vary *Expected Weekly Work Schedule: Monday Friday; some weekends may be necessary

* College offices are normally open from 8:00 AM until 5:00PM Monday through Friday. However due to the nature of responsibility to the student body individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening or weekend hours. Non-exempt employees will normally work 8 hours per (any hours more than 40 per week) for non-exempt employees is required to be approved in advance by the department supervisor. Exempt employees will typically work at least 40 hours per week and such additional time as may be reasonably required to fulfill the obligations of their position description. Such additional work may include evenings and weekends and should be described in this document.

Summary of this position:

The Program Coordinator of Mountain Challenge assists with the operation of the Mountain Challenge and other Fit Green Happy programs.

Minimum Qualifications Required: (please be specific and respond to every question; indicate none if not applicable)

Education required to ensure success in this position:

  • Bachelors degree required.

Experience required to ensure success in this position:

  • Experience managing student-facing programs.
  • Experience in training and development.
  • Experience in managing part-time staff and volunteers.

Special skills knowledge and abilities:

  • Ability to read write and comprehend instructions short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines priorities and programs.
  • Strong ability to plan and organize.

License certification or registration necessary:

  • Valid Tennessee Drivers License.
  • First Responder Certification required.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds.
  • Ability to direct and participate in physically demanding programs and projects such as long walks hiking kayaking etc.
  • Ability to withstand long periods of time standing walking both indoors and outdoors.
  • Employees are regularly required to reach with their hands and arms stand crouch and kneel.
  • Employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Environmental conditions:

  • Professional office environment with occasional interruptions and noise due to visitors students faculty and staff.
  • Primarily indoors and some outdoor activities. Outdoor activities may be in wooded areas grassy areas and bodies of water.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat.

Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:

  • Standard office equipment: computer phone etc.
  • Ability to operate vehicles and other on-site equipment such as a wall-climb.

Primary duties and responsibilities (Typically 7 primary duties comprised of 80% of the responsibilities):

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Select train and evaluate all College staff and student workers for Mountain Challenge.
  • Assist the director with the design of the programs and ensure proper safety of all faculty students and other participants.
  • Assist the director in preparing administering and monitoring the departmental budget.
  • Help create and implement Fit Green Happy programs for faculty and students.
  • Assist with other campus wellness and fitness events for staff and students.
  • Help the director with creating programs that promote student initiatives for environmental sustainability.
  • Assist with Great Beginnings and Orientation.

Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive respectful learning environment for all staff faculty and students.
